It has been suggested that the eastern Asian temperate flora have responded to Quaternary climatic changes in a different way compared with temperate plants in Europe and Northern America. However, knowledge about their phylogeographic structure and evolutionary history is still limited. In this study we investigated mitochondrial DNA variation in 17 populations of Pinus kwangtungensis, a five-needled pine inhabiting in isolated mountains of southern China and northern Vietnam. A total of ten mitochondrial haplotypes (mitotypes) were characterized by the polymorphisms of two fragments (cox-1-2 and nad7 intron1), and total genetic diversity was high (hT = 0.847). The construction of phylogenetic relationships of the ten mitotypes detected three major, well-distinct clades, largely corresponding to four population groups identified by SAMOVA analysis. SAMOVA also indicated that most genetic variance should be attributed to among-group differentiation (FCT = 0.868), consistent with the substantial genetic structure found within P. kwangtungensis (GST = 0.751). The genetic distances of P. kwangtungensis weakly but significantly correlated with geographical distances (R = 0.228, P = 0.03), revealing a pattern of isolation-by-distance. Demographic analysis did not detect any bottleneck events in the recent history of P. kwangtungensis. These results clearly suggested that there were three major refugia for this montane temperate conifer during warm stages (along with other minor refugia), and that the species would have tracked Quaternary climatic changes by expanding to nearby lowlands in the glacial periods, and by retreating to mountaintops (the refugia) during interglacial warmer stages, experiencing fragmentation and isolation among refugia. © Springer-Verlag 2009.

A new monomer, bis[4-(p-phenoxybenzoyl)-1,2-benzenedioyl]-N,N,N′, N′-4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (BPBDADPS), was prepared by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of bis(4-chloroformyl-1,2-benzenedioyl)-N,N,N′, N′-4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (BCBDADPS) with diphenyl ether (DPE). Novel poly(aryl ether ketone)s containing sulfone and imide linkages in the main chains (PAEKSI) were synthesized by electrophilic solution polycondensation of terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) with a mixture of DPE and BPBDADPS under mild conditions. The copolymers obtained were characterized by different physico-chemical techniques. The copolymers with 10-30 mol% BPBDADPS are semi-crystalline and had remarkably increased Tg values over commercially available PEEK and PEKK due to the incorporation of sulfone and imide linkages in the main chains. The copolymers III and IV with 20-30 mol% BPBDADPS had not only high Tg values of 180-187 °C, but also moderate Tm values of 338-341 °C, having good potential for the melt processing. The copolymers III and IV had tensile strengths of 100.7-104.2 MPa, Young's moduli of 2.31-2.44 GPa, and elongations at break of 12.2-14.7% and exhibited high thermal stability and good resistance to organic solvents. © The Author(s) 2011.

With the development of large grid, distributed, heterogeneous complex power network, the power grid management is more and more complex and its safety operation is more important. In order to effective control of power systems in normal operating conditions within the shortest possible time, the relay signal must be accurately passed to the communication terminal by the transmission channel. At present, optical fiber protection channel is widely used in many parts in China. It also has some problems, such as leakage of immature technology, lack of synchronous optical transmission signal protection performance indicators.
