Water quality information of Beijiang River, a tributary of Pearl River in Guangdong, China, was analyzed to provide an overview of the hydrochemical functioning of a major agricultural/rural area and an industrial/urban area. Eighteen water quality parameters were surveyed at 13 sites from 2005 to 2006 on a monthly basis. A bivariate correlation analysis was carried out to evaluate the regional correlations of the water quality parameters, while the principal component analysis (PCA) technique was used to extract the most influential variables for regional variations of river water quality. Six principal components were extracted in PCA which explained more than 78% and 84% of the total variance for agricultural/rural and industrial/urban areas, respectively. Physicochemical factor, organic pollution, sewage pollution, geogenic factor, agricultural nonpoint source pollution, and accumulated pesticide usage were identified as potential pollution sources for agricultural/rural area, whereas industrial wastewaters pollution, mineral pollution, geogenic factor, urban sewage pollution, chemical industrial pollution, and water traffic pollution were the latent pollution sources for industrial/urban area. A multivariate linear regression of absolute principal component scores (MLR-APCS) technique was used to estimate contributions of all identified pollution sources to each water quality parameter. High coefficients of determination of the regression equations suggested that the MLR-APCS model was applicable for estimation of sources of most water quality parameters in the Beijiang River Basin. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.

The troweling of wall space is an essential decorative process and the development of wall-troweling robots, which are expected to release labors from the burdensome pargeting tasks, is growing to be a promising sector in today's architectural industry. In this paper, a static analysis is conducted for the key components of troweling disk and vertical guiderail, based on the proposed virtual prototype of wall-troweling robots. The stress distribution across these components provides a sound basis for the structural design. With the finite element analysis module of SolidWorks package, the paper investigates the modal characteristics of the key components operating under practical conditions. The research effort in this paper is contributive to the design and manufacturing of wall-troweling robots. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

As the most potential member in the textile composite material, stitched textile composites have already been paid a lot attention. By the simply technology form and relatively low cost, stitched composites had attracted many domestic and foreign researchers, and were gradually used in various engineering practice. This paper using 3D micro-finite element method researches the mechanical behavior and performance of stitched composites, establishing a 3D micro-finite element model for the stitched composites under the improved locking suture way. Through analysis, it shows that each material's stress distribution characteristics under external loading and finds that the results of this paper's finite element data results matching well with previous studies' results, proving the feasibility of this study, so it can be used for forecasting the mechanical properties of a variety of practical stitched composites.

With the advent of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, communications between physical objects and humans become realistic, and smart devices can be monitored and controlled remotely. It promotes the development of smart home, smart city and even smart planet, which greatly improves the quality and efficiency of human life. As a kind of common services, middleware technology plays an importance role in IoT system. This paper firstly introduces the research background of IoT and middleware technology. Then three main middleware access scenes are analyzed in IoT system, which is determined by the sensing device functions. Lastly, this paper defines the middleware interface, and proposes the interface design method. The middleware interface is classified into three categories: device side interface, application side interface and middleware management interface, in which device side interface defines the data transmission method between the device layer and the platform layer; application side interface defines the middleware opening resources and services between the application layer and the platform layer; and middleware management interface is mainly for devices and middleware management functions. It indicates the message interaction process, and separates different message information, thus improving the data transmission efficiency and enhancing the services open ability of IoT system. © 2015 SERSC.

The dissipated heat in grinding is utilized to induce martensitic phase transformation and strengthen the unhardened steel in grinding, which can be integrated into existing production lines. The orthogonal experiments were performed to analyze the main impacting factors and the rule between the parameters and hardness layer results. The surface hardness depth is varied with different surface zone. Cutting depth is the main factor of impacting the surface hardness and hardness layer depth. Hardness layer depth is higher with the cutting depth deeper and smaller with Table speed faster, but the surface hardness is higher with the Table speed faster. © (2010) Trans Tech Publications.

Eutrophication is one of the most serious water quality problems in the world. Urban lake eutrophication evaluation with the aim of improving urban water environment quality will provide foundations for urban water environment management and remediation. Considering that lake eutrophication evaluation involves many indexes, many rankings and interval values, fuzzy variable sets theory is applied. Based on the premise that the same mathematics model is used, index weights are determined by means of entropy value method, equal weight method and pure threshold value method. Relative membership degree of each index belonging to each ranking can be calculated with relative difference function model. At last, the stability of feature values of classification corresponding to three methods is analyzed and grade of each sample is determined. This model is applied to Dongchang Lake. Three lake regions all belong to the fifth ranking, namely eutrophic. It basically corresponds to reality. So it can be indicated that the proposed model is reasonable and practical. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Eco-environmental water demand of urban water system should be that of certain quality, which is necessary for it to develop its normal functions. The water system includes Dongchang Lake, Tuhai River and Old Canal in Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, China. The multiannual mean optimum, medium and minimum eco-environmental water demand of Dongchang Lake are respectively 2922.9×104m3, 2334.7×104m3 and 1746.4×104m3. Those of Tuhai River are respectively 4757.9×104m3, 2865.7×104m3 and 1919.7×104m3. Those of Old Canal are respectively 348.0×104m3, 277.9×104m3 and 207.9×104m3. Then those of the water system in Liaocheng City are respectively 8028.8×104m3, 5478.3×104m3 and 3874×104m3. These results can provide basis for protecting its eco-environment and promoting its sustainable usage. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The properties of urban lake ecosystem considered, the index system for its health assessment is built with the pressure-state-response model framework put forward by Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The comprehensive index weights are determined with improved analytic hierarchy process and entropy value method. The model based on fuzzy optimum selection theory is used to assess health state of urban lake ecosystem. The application of this model in Lake Dongchang is given as an example.
