Frost damages caused by water seepage often occur in the cold regions, especially at the construction joints including deformation joints. Taking the construction of Jingyu-Tonghua tunnel on Dunhua-Tonghua expressway as an example, an X-type drainable waterstop with a butterfly-shaped section was used for preventing water seepage from construction joint. During its installation, the waterstop should be pressed toward the end formwork of the lining section from the side (one side of the firstly cast lining), making the wing part at another side of the later cast lining section deform to press upon the end formwork. The waterstop is then fixed by a steel nail with a gasket point to point at proper intervals from the rib. The first cast lining section is stripped after curing for some time and the wing part of the waterstop is restored with the help of the elasticity of material. The advantages of the X-type drainable waterstop are easy installation and high quality of waterstop construction, which can improve the waterproof reliability of construction joint. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of "Modern Tunnelling Technology". Based on similarity theory, the systemic analysis for the distribution characteristics of tunnel temperature field in two different working conditions of having no thermal insulation and installing PU as insulator is progressed by using manufactured model test platform in order to realize the tunnel temperature field rule in cold regions with or without thermal insulation and the influence of thermal insulation layout pattern on insulating effect. The results show that the temperature variation conforms to the "tunnel freeze-thaw circle" theory without thermal insulation, and the surrounding rock maintains negative temperature all the time in the low temperature environment; the internal temperature field of surrounding rock plays a decisive role on the surface temperature of surrounding rock, which keeps above 0°C after the layout of thermal insulation with appropriate material and thickness. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications. In order to predicate the value of roadbed settlement in peat soil area, and adopt proper groundwork disposal method, based on ground distortion principle and subsidence and consolidated computation analysis, the paper carries on theoretical analysis and forecast to the rule of peat soil ground lamination subsidence and final settlement time-space variation. By the contrast theoretical analysis of peat ground to subside, the theoretical result and actual monitor data fit well, and it proves that adoptive theories and parameters are appropriate. Aimed at the problems in waterproofing of lining construction joint, a trapezoidal drainable waterstop has been developed, in which the drainage holes are set at the side towards the waterproofing layer with geotextile on the top of holes and connection to the tunnel drainage system at the lower end, providing the drainage function for the back-applied waterstop. The waterstop section is designed as trapezoid, which allows two wings to go deeply into the lining concrete and allows both sides of the flange to have enough space to fill the concrete. And in light of the poor sealing of back-applied waterstop induced by uncompacted concrete at the tunnel crown, an artificial top installation technique has been developed, namely, installing a wood board on the vault with appropriate thickness and length as local artificial top and installing the back-applied waterstop based on the traditional installation method. With the artificial top, the back-applied waterstop becomes the middle-buried one at the tunnel crown, which maintains the features of easy installation of back-applied waterstop and maximizes the advantages of surrounding compaction of middle-buried one. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of "Modern Tunnelling Technology". In order to prevent the solar heater falling off the roof in extreme weather and spread the solar building technology, this paper gave a feasible inclination and new connection for collectors used in slope roof and ridge in cold district. The reliability of connection was analyzed under snowstorm and fierce wind condition. The results showed that raising the inclination angle of heater 3°higher than local latitude was beneficial to ensure the security of collector and to reduce the energy consumed by buildings. In the event that the whole load has acted on a single expansion in combined load condition, it remain contained 286% safety margin, while safety margin was up to 415% under fierce wind circumstances individually. It is obvious that the connection is quiet suit for installing heaters on the roof without forethought pedestals. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Source
