Using an analytical method, the harmonic vibration characteristics of viscoelastic soil and lining structure are presented in the frequency domain. Firstly, the soil skeleton is treated as a viscoelastic medium with the fractional derivative constitutive relations. By the viscoelastic theory, the analytical solutions for the displacement and stress of the fractional derivative type viscoelastic soil are obtained, subject to a harmonic axisymmetric load. Secondly, the lining is treated as a homogeneous elastic medium. The lining is equivalent for a thin shell structure. The motion equation of the lining structure is established by the Flügge theory of a thin shell. The dynamic interactions of fractional derivative viscoelastic soil and the shell are analyzed. The expressions of undetermined coefficients are based on continuity conditions. Thirdly, the analytical results are compared with the analytical solutions from current existing literatures. Finally, the system dynamic characteristics are analyzed for different parameters of the soil and the lining by the numerical examples. It is shown that the system dynamic responses with a thin shell are greater than those with homogeneous elastic lining conditions; the response amplitudes decrease gradually as the modulus ratio between soil and lining increases. The parameters of fractional derivative constitutive have great influences on the system dynamic characteristics.

The mixture of water and gas is treated as a homogeneous fluid. Based on Boit's theory, the influences of water saturation on the dynamic responses of a partially sealed tunnel are investigated in the frequency domain. By utilizing the continuous condition, the analytical solutions of the displacement, stress and pore water pressure of a partially sealed tunnel in the nearly saturated soil are derived subject to the harmonic load. On this basis, the influences of water saturation and permeability coefficient on the system responses are discussed by the numerical example. It is shown that the water saturation has a great influence on the stress and pore water pressure amplitudes. In addition, the permeability in the boundary of the tunnel is reasonably described by the permeability coefficient. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Regarding the soil skeleton as a viscoelastic medium with fractional derivative constitutive relation, the governing equations of the steady state vibration of the saturated fractional derivative viscoelastic soil embedded a spherical cavity are established based on the Biot's theory. The analytical expressions of the displacements, stresses and pore water pressure of the saturated fractional derivative viscoelastic soil with a spherical cavity are obtained with the introduction help of potential functions in case of spherical symmetry. The influences of the parameters of fractional derivative model and saturated soil on the vibration characteristics of the soil are examined; and the numerical results show that the fluid compressibility has a great influence on the dynamic characteristics; while the influences of the soil skeleton compressibility and fluid-solid coupling coefficient are trivial. The influence of the fractional derivative order on the dynamic behavior of the soil depends on the values of material parameter ratio. Furthermore, the dynamic responses of the saturated soil with undrained boundary condition are greater than those with the drained boundary condition.

Regarding the soil skeleton as viscoelastic medium with fractional derivative constitutive behavior, the influences of the soil skeleton viscosity and the soil layer thickness of saturated fractional derivative viscoelastic soil layer on the vertical vibration amplification coefficient is studied in the frequency domain by using the theory of Biot and one dimensional wave. The analytical expressions of the displacement, stress and pore water pressure of saturated soil layer are obtained by decoupling dynamic control equations and bounding the soil layer boundary conditions. The influences of physical and geometrical parameters of the saturated soil on vertical vibration amplification are investigated, and it is revealed that the vertical vibration amplification of the saturated classic elastic, fractional derivative type viscoelastic saturated soil and saturated classic viscoelastic soil are different when the soil layer thickness are changed; the material parameters of the fractional derivative model have great influences on the vertical vibration amplification coefficient. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Previous results have shown that both nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) play crucial roles in the promotion of adventitious root development in explants of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.). In this study, the involvement of NO and H2O2 in indole-3-butyric acid (IBA)-induced adventitious root development in marigold explants, and the order of action of these molecules in the signal transduction pathway were investigated.The results indicated that, like NO and H2O2, IBA-induced adventitious rooting occurred in a dose-dependent manner. Two parameters of root growth in explants treated simultaneously with IBA and H2O2 were significantly higher than those in explants treated with IBA or H2O2 alone, suggesting that IBA and H2O2 may act synergistically to mediate adventitious rooting. NO and H2O2 were pre-requisites for the adventitious rooting induced by IBA. Moreover, treatment with IBA enhanced the endogenous levels of NO and H2O2 in explants, indicating that the induction of adventitious roots by IBA occurred through enhancing the levels of NO and H2O2. NO and H2O2 may be downstream signal molecules in the auxin signalling cascade, and NO may be involved as an upstream signalling molecule for H2O2 production.
