An electroplated diamond wire saw with twisted three steel cores is prepared. In comparison with a diamond wire saw with single core, cutting performances including mechanical property, slicing efficiency and surface wear of the three-core twisted wire saw are studied. Slicing experiments of multi-crystalline silicon ingots are accomplished using the diamond wire saws. Under the same slicing condition, such as wire tension force and down feed rate, the three-core twisted diamond wire saw shows smaller wire bow and less wear loss than the single core wire saw during the slicing process. The wire bow is reduced by 23%. It is indicated that the three-core twisted diamond wire saw has advantages like better cutting capability and long service life over the single diamond core wire saw.
