The solubility data of 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl disulfide in solvents (ethanol, methanol, ethyl acetate, methylbenzene, chloroform, acetone) were measured between (303.15 and 333.15) K under atmospheric pressure using synthetic method and laser monitoring technique. The experimental data was correlated with the Apelblat equation and measured up to experimental data. For six solvents studied, the average relative errors σ are all less than 2.6 %, and the root-mean-square deviations are all less than 0.45 %. © 2013 American Chemical Society. Source

A new, practical and cost-effective route for scalable synthesis of 2-[(4-dodecyloxyphenyl)sulfonyl] butanoic acid, a key intermediate of a new cyan dye-forming coupler containing a sulfone group, was developed by adopting phenol as the starting material. The synthesis was accomplished in five steps with etherification, chlorosulfonation, reduction, nucleophilic reaction by C-S coupling and hydrolyzation. An important objective of the new synthetic route was the synthesis of 2-[4-(dodecyloxyphenyl)sulfonyl]butanoate. Overall yield obtained at optimized conditions increased to 66 %. The synthetic strategy was proven to be a process enabling rapid delivery of the target product with high purity. © 2015 Institute of Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences. Source

Herein a two-step process for the synthesis of 2-norbornanone with 91 % overall yield has been developed. The addition of sublimation inhibitors suppressed the sublimation of norbornene in the process of sulfuric acid-promoted hydration and increased the yield of 2-norbornanol significantly under mild conditions. Additionally, reuse of sulfuric acid has been achieved. A 4-hydroxy-TEMPO/CuCl/TBN triple-component catalyst system for the highly selective aerobic oxidation of 2-norbornanol was developed and displayed high atom efficiency and yield. © 2015 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht Source

One-pot synthesis of 6-bromo-4,4-dimethylthiochroman from bromobenzene is reported. The crucial connection between the three steps is that the byproducts in the first two steps are used as the catalyst in the third step. The solubilities of 4-amino-4′-nitrodiphenyl sulfide in n-butanol, ethyl acetate, chlorobenzene, toluene, dichloromethane, and chloroform were determined between 287.45 K and 365.55 K (p = 0.1 MPa) using a laser monitoring dynamic technique and synthetic method. The solubilities determined were well-correlated with the modified Apelblat equation with the mean relative deviation (σ) no more than 1.27 % and the root-mean-square deviation (rmsd) no more than 0.07 %. © 2013 American Chemical Society.
