CTOD tests were carried out for flux-cored gas protection welded joints of DH36 according to Standard BS7448. The effect of fatigue precracking force on the CTOD value was investigated by analyzing the microstructure and fracture surface of the joint and finite element simulation on the process of fatigue precracking. The results show that the maximum fatigue precracking force has a tremendous influence on CTOD value. When the maximum fatigue precracking force was less than the specified value in Standard BS7448, the test process was prone to pop-in phenomenon, and smaller CTOD value occurred. Conversely, when the maximum fatigue precracking force was close to or exceeding the specified value, the CTOD value would be larger. Thus the Standard should be strictly limited to the maximum fatigue precracking force to ensure the reliability of test results. ©, 2015, Harbin Research Institute of Welding. All right reserved.

In order to investigate the effect of high temperature ultrasonic peening on fatigue performance of Q345 steel welded joints, the weld toes were treated by self-developed ultrasonic peening device at room temperature (20 ℃), 250 ℃, 350 ℃ and 450 ℃, respectively. The results indicated that when the stress ratio R was equal to 0.1, both the conventional and high temperature ultrasonic peening treatments greatly enhanced the fatigue performance of Q345 steel butt joints. Moreover, compared with the as-welded joints, the degree of improvement of fatigue performance of Q345 steel welded joint treated at 250 ℃ was the highest, up to 99.41%. In addition, the degree of improvement of fatigue performance increased first and then decreased with the increasing peening temperature under the influence of residual stress and stress concentration. ©, 2014, Harbin Research Institute of Welding. According to the characteristic of weaving welding, an arc swing ladder model was established on basis of strip heat source and numerical simulation of temperature field in Q345 steel plate butt joint with weaving welding was done using commercial software SYSWELD. The transient temperature field and thermal cycle curves in the welded zone were obtained. The results showed that the transient temperature field with arc-weaving ladder model was different from that with strip heat source model, and the weld pool with ladder model was elliptical with small head and big rump when the heat source moved from the middle to both sides. The thermal cycle curves with ladder model were also different from those with strip heat source model, and they had a wave crest both in heating and cooling, which reflected that the weld was affected by the arc weaving upon heating and cooling. ©, 2014, Harbin Research Institute of Welding.
