The dosage of the alloys of billet was close to internal control standard limit due to mechanical properties of partial number HRB400 hot-rolled ribbed bars were low and even did not meet the requirements of the national standard. To search an alternative way without increasing the dosage of the alloys as well as the production cost, a study of spray cooling technology for HRB400 hot-rolled ribbed steel bars was carried out and good results in property improvement were obtained. The results show that the application of spray cooling can refine the surface texture grains of the bars, thereby resulting in the yield strength increases by 10MPa; and can prevent the surface froth of the ribbed bars leading to the better surface quality of the product, without increasing the dosage of the alloys as a prerequisite.
