For the issue of no guarantee of the robustness of the FESS (Flywheel Energy Storage System)-based stabilizer designed at one of the typical operation, An improved method was proposed to select the best installing location, damping control loop, feedback signal robustly and to tune FESS-based stabilizer parameters by taking into account multiple operations. Based on linearized model with FESS and application of Damping Torque Analysis (DTA), the maximum of all of the minimum Damping Torque Indices (DTI) under multi-operation conditions is the index of selection FESS installing location, damping control loop and feedback signal, and the operation of minimum changing real of eigenvalue is the condition to tune FESS-based stabilizer parameters. And the results of a four-machine power system with FESS showed that power system oscillations are suppressed effectively by FESS-based stabilizer designed by the method under multiple operations. And also the results showed that the method proposed is effective and robust. Source

Increasing application of cable leads to sharp increase in capacitance current, and original capacity of arc extinction coil no longer meets the demands. The compensation performance is outstanding because of low cost and flexible installation. We researched the flexibility of distributed arc suppression coil by the location and capacity, and analyzed the cooperation with arc extinction coil of principal station. Moreover, we established and experimentally verified a simulation model. The results indicate that, fault residual current is the minimum if installed at the end of longer cable and the current match with the line. Source

Cellular Automata (CA) is a model for describing state evolution system with local communication. It can be used to model artificial life and traffic flow etc. The expression ability of the Cellular Automata is powerful. But the property analysis of it is in general a hard problem. In this paper, the model checker NuSMV is used to verify the reachability and safety of the Cellular Automata. The algorithm for translating the Cellular Automata into Global State Transition Diagram is provided, and the algorithm for model checking correctness of the property of the Global State Transition Diagram is also given. In this paper, the inherent mechanism of benefits associated with smart grid development is examined based on the Pressure-State-Response (PSR) model from resource economics. The emerging types of technology brought up by smart grid development are taken as pressures. The improvements of the performance and efficiency of power system operation are taken as states. The effects of smart grid development on society are taken as responses. Then, a novel method for evaluating social benefits in energy saving and CO2 emission reduction from smart grid development is presented. Finally, the benefits in a province in northwest China is carried out by employing the developed evaluation system, and reasonable evaluation results are attained. © 2013 Australasian Committee for Power Engineering (ACPE). The distributed generation (DG) may lead to a great impact on the reactive power flow, feeder voltage profile and the means of voltage regulation when integrated into a typical distribution system. Therefore, there is possibility that the customer's voltage violate the permissible limits. In order to regulate the voltage of the distribution system with DG, local voltage and reactive power control (VQC) based on fuzzy control theory is adopted in substation and the Static Var Compensator(SVC) is installed in the appropriate node in this paper, and the fuzzy controller of VQC has been designed at the same time. A simplified model of a real 10kV radial distribution system has been simulated in MATLAB to illustrate the use of the voltage regulation method, and the simulation results show that the proposed method can regulate the line voltage of distribution system with DG within the regulated voltage ranges. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
