The reason that oxide scale of continuous casting slab cannot be incompletely removed was analyzed by SEM. The results show that the inner layer of oxide scale of continuous casting slab for Q235B, Q345B and SPA-H embeds in steel matrix in the form of cuneiform. The oxide scale embedded in steel matrix is mainly Fe2SiO4. With increasing silicon, the content of Fe2SiO4 in the matrix increases, leading to the increment of adhesion force between inner layer oxide scale and steel matrix, which is the fundamental reason for the incomplete remove of oxide scale of continuous casting slab. Therefore, the methods to remove the oxide scale of continuous casting slab were proposed. On the one hand, the temperature of continuous casting slab should be elevated to above 1173°C by optimization of the heating process, on the other hand, in order to increase the effect of high-pressure water descaling, high-pressure water descaling system parameters can be optimized.

The kinetic processes of recrystallization and precipitation in low carbon steels with different Nb contents were studied by stress-relaxation method. The effects of Nb solute drag and its precipitation on the recovery and recrystallization behavior were analyzed by the experiment and theoretical model. When the Nb content increases, the nose temperature of precipitation kinetic curves (PTT) rises, but the time of precipitation corresponding to the nose temperature changes a little, which is about 20 to 30 s. The precipitation can obviously restrain the recrystallization process, and increasing the Nb content makes the non-recrystallized temperature rise. The Nb solute drag can inhibit the mobility of grain boundaries, lead to the decreasing mobility rate of grain boundaries, and finally cause the process of recrystallization retarded. The recrystallized activation energy is linear with the square root of Nb mass fraction.

Transversal pre-strain experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of transversal hole enlargement on the tensile strain behavior of multi-phase pipeline steel. Experimental results indicate that the work hardening behavior after pre-strain treatment has directional characterization. When the pre-strain direction parallels to the final tensile strain direction, the work hardening rate is very high. Only when the pre-strain rate is lower than 2%, the yield ratio can keep below 0.95. When the tensile strain direction is perpendicular to the pre-strain direction, the strain-stress curves can maintain a continuous yield character, which has low yield ratio (below 0.75) and high uniform elongation rate. In addition, strain aging treatment was carried out to investigate the effect of anticorrosion thermal coating treatment on the tensile strain behavior of multi-phase pipeline steel. It is shown that the multi-phase pipeline steel has excellent anti-aging stability.

A series of ferrite/bainite (F/B) multi-phase steels containing different volume fractions of ferrite were obtained. The effect of soft phase (ferrite) content on the work-hardening behavior of the steel was studied by the finite element simulation with V-BCC model and the modified Crussard-Jaoul (C-J) analysis. It is shown that the multi-phase steels have an excellent anti-deformation ability, such as higher stress ratio (R t1.5/R t0.5), higher uniform elongation and lower yield to tensile strength ratio. For the F/B multi-phase steels, increasing the proportion of ferrite would help to increase the uniform elongation. However, introducing much more fraction of ferrite would not be helpful to improve the stress ratio of multi-phase steel. The ferrite plastic strain constrained by bainite would be beneficial to increasing the work hardening rate. The optimum proportion of ferrite will result both higher stress ratio and uniform elongation in multi-phase steel. © 2012 Science China Press and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
