Performances of blend films in which HDPE and EVA were blends substrate and inorganic modified bentonite, kaolin and diatomite were fillers were studied. The effects of these three fillers on tensile strength, water barrier and oxygen barrier properties and decomposition temperature of the blend films were discussed. The research focused on the effects of diatomite on the performances of films when the mass ratio of HDPE/EVA is 65/35. When the fillers addition is in small amount (≤4.8%), the tensile strength could be improved to some extent, and the maximum value could reach 23.8%; the water barrier and oxygen barrier properties of the blend films vary following the mass ratio of HDPE/EVA in the blends. ©, 2014, Power System Technology Press. The variational iteration method (VIM) is widely applied for solving various kinds of nonlinear equations. Despite its simplicity and effectiveness, the accuracy of the method may depend on the iteration steps. However, the more iteration steps one makes, the more complex the results may become. To overcome this shortcoming, a new method combining the VIM with energy method (EM) is proposed and applied to study the nonlinear response of cubic packaging system. The analytical expressions of the important parameters such as the maximum displacement response, the maximum acceleration response of the system, the extended period of the shock, and the conditions for inner resonance of system were obtained. The results show that the maximum of the acceleration and the displacement and the extended period of the shock got by this method are very similar to the ones got by Runge-Kutta method. The result provides the new method for the dropping shock problem of nonlinear packaging system. © 2013 An-Jun Chen. Source

A mathematical model for a cubic nonlinear packaging system with a cantilever beam type critical component with concentrated tip mass is proposed. The finite element method and the implicit finite difference method together with the Rung-Kutta method are applied to study the dropping impact dynamics of the critical component and the effect of system parameters, such as the value of the concentrated tip mass and the frequency of the main component, is discussed. The results show that the relative displacement and acceleration change remarkably with the length of the cantilever beam, and the maximum internal stress occurs at the joint end of the critical component. With the increase of the value of the concentrated tip mass and/or a higher frequency of the main component, the amplitudes of the responses increase obviously. © 2014 Meng Hao and An-Jun Chen. In die-sinking EDM processing of deep complex cavities, gap status is easy to be deteriorated because of the hardness of debris evacuation. To address this problem, a kind of porous material was applied as the tool electrode. The porous material was prepared by the way of high-temperature sintering of copper particles. With a proper sintering parameters setting, a porous electrode, in which copper particles connect with each other tightly, is able to be fabricated according to a graphite mould. The porous electrode also has a high porosity such that liquid flow channels are formed and the distributed multi-hole inner-flushing can be achieved. A complex porous electrode for the machining of a deep, complex, and semi-enclosed cavity was prepared, and the EDM experiment was carried out. The experimental results showed that the roughing machining efficiency was raised significantly, which therefore revealed a strong capability of porous electrode in complex cavity machining. © 2016 The Authors. Adjusting and controlling the relative humidity (RH) inside package is crucial for ensuring the quality of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of fresh produce. In this paper, an improved kinetic model for predicting the RH in MAP was developed. The model was based on heat exchange and gases mass transport phenomena across the package, gases heat convection inside the package, and mass and heat balances accounting for the respiration and transpiration behavior of fresh produce. Then the model was applied to predict the RH in MAP of fresh Lentinula edodes (one kind of Chinese mushroom). The model equations were solved numerically using Adams-Moulton method to predict the RH in model packages. In general, the model predictions agreed well with the experimental data, except that the model predictions were slightly high in the initial period. The effect of the initial gas composition on the RH in packages was notable. In MAP of lower oxygen and higher carbon dioxide concentrations, the ascending rate of the RH was reduced, and the RH inside packages was saturated slowly during storage. The influence of the initial gas composition on the temperature inside package was not much notable. © 2013 Li-xin Lu et al. Source
