To observe the effects on function rehabilitation of vocal cord after vocal cord polyps surgery treated with acupuncture at Sheng's Four Points of Throat. Sixty cases were randomly divided into a combined therapy group of Four Points of Throat and medication (group 1, 30 cases) and a medication group (group 2, 30 cases). In group 1 Four Points of Throat were punctured and routine medication was applied; in group 2, only routine medication was applied. The scores of symptom-sign and status of voice were observed and analyzed before and after treatment in two groups. At 4th day after the surgery, the improvement of the symptom-sign scores in group 1 was more significant than that in group 2 (P < 0.05); and the voice analysis status in group 1 was superior to that in group 2 (all P < 0.05). The total effective rate was 83.3% (25/30) in group 1, which was superior to that of 60.0% (18/30) in group 2 (P < 0.05). The effect on function rehabilitation of vocal cord after vocal cord polyps surgery treated with the combined therapy group of Four Points of Throat and routine medication is favorable, superior to that with routine medication therapy.

Liver cancer is a common human cancer with a high mortality rate and currently there is no effective chemoprevention or systematic treatment. Recent evidence suggests that prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of liver cancer. However, the mechanisms through which PGE2 promotes liver cancer cell growth are not yet fully understood. It has been reported that the increased expression of FUSE-binding protein 1 (FBP1) significantly induces the proliferation of liver cancer cells. In this study, we report that PGE2 promotes liver cancer cell growth by the upregulation of FBP1 protein expression. Treatment with PGE2 and the E prostanoid 3 (EP3) receptor agonist, sulprostone, resulted in the time-dependent increase in FBP1 protein expression; sulprostone increased the viability of the liver cancer cells. The protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor, H89, and the adenylate cyclase (AC) inhibitor, SQ22536, inhibited the cell viability accelerated by sulprostone. By contrast, the Gi subunit inhibitor, pertussis toxin (PTX), exhibited no significant effect. Treatment with PGE2 and sulprostone caused a decrease in JTV1 protein expression, blocked the binding of JTV1 with FBP1, which served as a mechanism for FBP1 degradation, leading to the decreased ubiquitination of FBP1 and the increase in FBP1 protein expression. Furthermore, H89 and SQ22536 prevented the above effects of JTV1 and FBP1 induced by PGE2 and sulprostone. These findings indicate that the EP3 receptor activated by PGE2 may couple to Gs protein and activate cyclic AMP (cAMP)-PKA, downregulating the levels of JTV1 protein, consequently inhibiting the ubiquitination of FBP1 and increasing FBP1 protein expression, thus promoting liver cancer cell growth. These observations provide new insights into the mechanisms through which PGE 2 promotes cancer cell growth.

AIM: To observe the recovery of corneal subbasal nerves after laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK), laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), femto-second lenticule extraction (FLEx) and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). METHODS: Confocal microscopy was used to observe subbasal nerves 1 mo after surgery in 12 eyes of 12 LASEK patients, 12 eyes of 12 LASIK patients, 12 eyes of 12 FLEx patients and 12 eyes of 12 SMILE patients as well as some other follow-up times. RESULTS: Subbasal nerves 1 mo after SMILE were almost complete and regular, showing no significant differences from those 2wk after surgery or even unoperated eyes. The nerves cut off at the incision were well involuted 1 mo after surgery. Subbasal nerves were damaged in different degrees and got repaired to form communicating branches with time lapse after LASEK, LASIK and FLEx. CONCLUSION: SMILE exerted small infections on subbasal nerves. It may be superior to other corneal refractive surgeries in terms of postoperative nerve recovery. ©, 2015, International Journal of Ophthalmology (c/o Editorial Office). All right reserved.
