The interaction of precipitation and recrystallization of AA3003 aluminum alloys with different Sc content during annealing was investigated by means of optical microscope, electrical resistivity measurement and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that coarse and elongated grains structure can be obtained in AA3003 aluminum alloy after annealing below 460°C, but fine and equiaxed grains substituted the former ones when the temperature is above 460°C. The recrystallization temperature of AA3003 alloy containing 0.387% Sc increases up to 480°C, which is much higher than the 360°C of AA3003 alloy without addition of Sc. When the annealing temperature ranges from 510°C to 610°C, coarse-elongated grains can always be obtained in the as-rolled AA3003 containing 0.387% Sc.

The influence of homogenizations on microstructure, precipitation and recrystallization temperature of twin roll cast (TRC) AA3003 aluminium strips were studied by means of optical microscope, hardness test, scanning electron microscopy and electric resistivity measurement. The results indicate that high temperature homogenization significantly promotes the recrystallization process of AA3003 aluminium alloy. The recrystallization temperature of the cold-rolled cast alloy decreases markedly after homogenization at 580 °C for 5 hours, and equiaxed grains with small size gradient are obtained after final annealing at 520 °C.

An experiment was carried out that an 82B wire rod of 12.5 mm in diameter was drawn nine passes. The evolution of the microstructures and inclusions of the 82B wire rod were observed by SEM after drawing at different strain, and the relation between pearlitic lamellar spacing and the drawing strain was investigated. The results indicate that the pearlitic lamellar spacing decreases as the drawing strain increases. And the drawn pearlitic layer distorted strongly and lamellar cementite deform along with the bending of lamellar ferrite, so they show good capability of plastic deformation. Moreover, the martensite formed owing to centre segregation is broken to pieces because of its weak plastic deformation capability in the drawing process and finally breaks away the matrix. In contrast to this, although a brittle inclusion of 10 μm in diameter has also been broken to pieces in the drawing process, the crack around the inclusion is not formed.

A thermal analysis experiment of cold deformed aluminum alloy 1052 was carried out using differential scanning calorimetry instrument, it was found that an exothermic peak appeared in a certain temperature range below the melting point. The annealing experiments show that the heat called recrystallization enthalpy in this paper results from the recrystallization of cold deformed aluminum. In addition, it is obtained that the enthalpy change of metal is greater than zero when the recrystallization occurs, which also proves recrystallization is exothermic from theory.
