We describe here a new myxozoan, Thelohanellus wangi n. sp., infecting the allogynogenetic gibel carp, Carassius auratus gibelio (Bloch), in a fry nursery farm in Jiangsu Province, China. Polysporous gray white round or ovoid plasmodia, 500–1,500 μm in size, were found exclusively in the gill filaments. The diagnostic characteristics of the myxospores are as follows: spore melon seed shaped in frontal view with smooth surface and asymmetrical valves; convex-shaped in sutural view with straight or slightly bent and thick sutural line, averaging 20.2 (16.5–22.3) × 9.9 (9.1–10.8) × 9.3 μm (8.2–10.4) in size; and one elliptical polar capsules with subulate anterior end and round posterior end, averaging 10.1 (8.4–11.2) × 6.5 μm (6.1–7.0) in size. Polar filaments coil six to seven turns and are slightly oblique to the longitudinal axis of the polar capsule. An elongate melon seed-shaped mucus envelope surrounds almost completely the spore, but with largest distance in posterior end between spore valve and mucus envelope. Granular sporoplasm contains two slightly oval nuclei, and no iodinophilous vacuole is observed. Histopathological analysis showed that the plasmodia embedded in the gill filaments and occasionally extended into the connective tissue of the gill arch. No significant inflammatory responses were provoked by the infection. The development of parasite is asynchronous, with mature spores centrally locating and trophozoites and pre-sporogonic stages peripherally locating within the plasmodia. Overall prevalence was 74 % (37/50). Infection intensity was usually high, with about 10–30 cysts per fish. Phylogenetical analysis shows that T. wangi n. sp. is most closely related to several Thelohanellus species infecting cyprinid fish and formed a Thelohanellus clade based on the ribosomal DNA data. The cysts of this myxosporean were only found from fry seed with body length below 7 cm, generally from late April to early June when the fry fish of allogynogenetic gibel carp were nursed in the epizootic areas. © 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The chemical composition, rheological and gelatinization characteristics of waxy wheat flour were investigated. Compared with wheat flour, waxy wheat flour has lower protein (9.52%), amylase (1.02%) and higher crude starch (73.19%) contents. Because of its different chemical composition, waxy wheat flour exhibited some better processing characteristics (water-holding capacity, dough development time, extensibility, swelling power and setback) than normal wheat flour. It also exhibited some defects in rheological characteristics, including a higher degree of softening, a lower Farinograph quality number and smaller resistance to extensibility ratio. Differential scanning calorimetry results showed that waxy wheat flour gelatinized at higher onset (To=60.9°C), peak (Tp=64.9°C), conclusion (Tc=73.6°C) temperatures and required more energy (δH=7.6J/g) to melt gelatinized starch gels. The results of this investigation indicated that blending waxy wheat flour with normal flour is a promising way to improve product quality in baked foods and to prolong the shelf-life of these products. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

Morphological features, granule composition, and physicochemical properties of waxy wheat starch were compared with those of normal wheat starch. The morphologies and granule populations were found to be similar for the two starches. However, waxy wheat starch contained a smaller proportion of B-type granules, had a larger average granule diameter, and a higher degree of crystallinity than normal wheat starch, as measured by particle size analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. These differences resulted in a higher gelatinization temperature, transition enthalpy, peak viscosity, breakdown, swelling power, lower peak viscosity temperature and final viscosity in waxy wheat starch. These points suggest that waxy wheat starch should have greater resistance to retrogradation during cooling and higher water-holding capacity under dry conditions. Highlighting the differences in physicochemical properties of waxy and normal wheat starches should help point toward effective applications of waxy wheat starch in the food industry. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

The rheological, textural, and enzymatic hydrolysis properties of starch isolated from the seed of a Chinese chickpea cultivar were compared with corn. The chickpea starch peak, final, breakdown, and setback viscosities (2631 ± 5, 1532 ± 3, 1346 ± 2, and 247 ± 0 cP, respectively) suggest a higher stability and consistency than corn. During gelatinization, the starch granules irreversibly lost their integrity and formed a continuous amorphous structure. The gel strength increased during storage for 24 h then slowly increased until 168 h. The chickpea starch gel became firmer owing to its high amylose content. During heating, storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G″) of starch suspension increased rapidly above 60 °C but reduced on further heating. During cooling, G' decreased rapidly from 95 to 75 °C then increased slowly until 25 °C, with no change in G″. The hydrolysis rate of chickpea starch was lower than that of corn starch, indicating its higher resistance to α-amylase digestibility during retrogradation. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Fe3O4/polyaniline@mesoporous SiO2 yolk@shell nanostructures have been synthesized as multifunctional drug nanocarriers: the nanocavity in the yolk@shell nanostructures ensures high encapsulation of drugs, the presence of conducting polymer and mesoporous SiO2 shell guarantee controlled release of drugs, and the Fe3O4 core ensures targeted location through a magnetic response. Doxorubicin was incorporated into Fe3O4/polyaniline@mesoporous SiO2 yolk@shell nanocarriers with remarkably high entrapment efficiency, and the delivery system has an obvious sustained release effect. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016.

In order to know the effects of micropore oxygen aeration on the water quality and economic output, take each 3 of micropore oxygen aeration (experimental pond) and impeller oxygenation (control pond) to make the comparison, indexs of two different aeration methods water were detected from May, 2012 to October, 2012. Such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen and nitrite, phytoplankton, chemical oxygen demand (CODMn). Results showed that, (1) the indexes of the dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, chemical oxygen demand (CODMn) and nitrite of the experimental pond are all superior to that of the control pond, of which the concentration of the dissolved oxygen of the experimental pond is 8.37 mg/L which is higher than that of the control pond (5.7 mg/L). And, CODMn in the experimental pond is 7.54 mg/L, lower than that in the control pond (10.19 mg/L). The difference between the control pond and the experimental pond was statistically significant (p<0.01). The ammonia nitrogen of the experimental pond is 0.1 mg/L, obviously lower than the control pond (0.16 mg/L). Besides, the nitrite is 0.13 mg/L in the experimental pond, lower than that of the control pond (0.21 mg/L). (2) Compared with the control pond, the experimental pond has quite higher general abundance of algae, with about 5.69×108 ind/L. Yet, there is no obvious difference between them. (3) Compared to the impeller oxygenation, the micropore oxygen aeration technology can be better to increase the dissolved oxygen in the aquaculture pond and improve the water quality. However, there is no significant influence to the phytoplankton abundance and diversity. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2013.

Aim of study on biological characteristics and propagative technologies of Rgodeous sinensis is of great significance to rationally utilizing its resource, protecting the species, improving the benefit of aquaculture. Research contents comprise biological characteristics, living habits, propagative habits, the source of its parent fish, rearing of parent fish and spawning via artificial estrus and incubation. It is discovered that the main point for propagating Rhodeus sinensis lies in identification of the parent fish of Rhodeus sinensis, appropriate proportion among males and females, employment of odinagogue, appropriate selection of categories and specifications of freshwater mussels. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2015.

A rapid and sensitive hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography method was developed for the identification and quantitative determination of 17 nucleosides and nucleobases by using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography separation system coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Sufficient separation of the target compounds was achieved on an Acquity BEH Amide column (2.1mm×100mm, 1.7μm) in a single run of 9min. The LOD and LOQ were in the range of 0.017-50.00ngml-1 and 0.056-146.00ngml-1, respectively. Then, the method was applied for the analysis of nucleosides and nucleobases in Elaphuri Davidiani Cornu and Cervi Cornu. Multivariate statistical analysis was also used to investigate the differences in the nucleosides and nucleobases profiles among the samples. The present study also provided helpful information for quality control of Elaphuri Davidiani Cornu and Cervi Cornu. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

To study the generation and structure of anti-HBV IgY in eggs from hens immunized with recombinant yeast HBV vaccine. From the hens immunized three times with the recombinant yeast HBV vaccine, the eggs were collected to extract anti-HBV IgY. After purified, the anti- HBV IgY was detected by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), and its secondary structure was examined by circular dichroism (CD) chromatography. The relative molecular mass (Mr;) of anti-HBV IgY expressed by the recombinant yeast HBV vaccine on hens was 178 000. CD chromatography showed that the α-helix, β-fold, β-turn and random coil of anti-HBV IgY had 38, 0, 44 and 17 amino acids, respectively. The anti-HBV IgY can be expressed in eggs from hens immunized with recombinant yeast HBV vaccine. The α-helix and β-turn are major secondary structures of anti-HBV IgY.

A traditional Chinese medicine immunopotentiator prepared from mulberry leaves polysaccharide and eucommia polysaccharide. The immunopotentiator can stimulate proliferation of chicken lymphocytes in vitro. When used together with newcastle disease vaccine to immunize chickens, the immunopotentiator can increase serum antibody titer, promote proliferation of lymphocytes, and enhance cellular immunity and humoral immunity of the chickens. When used together with porcine productive and respiratory syndrome vaccine to immunize piglets, the immunopotentiator can increase the serum antibody titer. When used together with the porcine productive and respiratory syndrome vaccine to immunize layers, the immunopotentiator can increase porcine productive and respiratory syndrome virus yolk antibody titer and improve immune effects of the vaccine.
