The factors affecting image flipping along different views in multi-view autosrereoscopic displays were experimentally investigated. Our results indicated that (i) overlapping images reduce image flipping and also image sharpness, (ii) those effects of overlapping images weaken with larger number of views per IOD. © 2010 ITE and SID. Multi-view and integral imaging displays have a significant feature that allows people to induce better stereopsis due to motion parallax. Base on the analysis of the mechanism, we propose characterization methods of the displays. Our methods evaluate change in luminance of stereoscopic images when observer's eye positions are displaced. The results show that our methods are good for showing smoothness of the motion parallax. We establish an ergonomic assessment theory to express the interface between a human and 3D display, and propose an analytical method to set requirements for avoiding the display's negative effects on human visual system. In order to indicate the performance of 3D displays properly, the development of characteristics needs to be accelerated. Since the primary purpose of 3D display is to provide depth perception to users, the characterization should be based on the visual ergonomics for stereopsis, especially depth visibility, comfort and Image Safety from VFSI. This paper shows the basic concept for characterization of 3D displays, and we particularly focus on the characteristic related with crosstalk and its visual influence. Source
