This paper presents adsorption isotherms and desorption data of isoflurane from a carrier gas (nitrogen) on different adsorbents at 25°C and 1 bar. As adsorbents activated carbons, newly developed carbon adsorbents and dealuminated zeolites were used. The adsorption of isoflurane was studied in trace level concentrations up to 1200 ppmV. Common isotherm equations were fitted to the measured data. The adsorption isotherms show distinctly different capacities depending on the polarity and the pore structure of the adsorbent. The investigation of desorption reveals weak physical interactions between isoflurane and the surface of most adsorbents. © 2015 American Chemical Society.

An LC-MS/MS multi-method for the simultaneous determination of the structurally different and frequently used cytostatic drugs 5-fluorouracil, gemcitabine, methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, etoposide, docetaxel and paclitaxel was developed and validated. In order to perform repeated ambient monitoring in 130 German pharmacies all steps of the monitoring procedure such as sample collection, transport, storage, sample preparation and HPLC-MS/MS analysis have been adapted and optimised. Thus sensitivity and reliability as well as sample throughput were increased. The final method consists of wipe sampling from 900 cm 2 surfaces and extraction of the tissues with an aqueous pH 3 solution. The limits of quantification range from 3.7 to 37 pg cm 2. Validation showed that sampling via the individual pharmacy personnel does not affect the overall results. Recovery rates below 70% were observed on rough surfaces for the taxanes docetaxel and paclitaxel. Likewise, neither the storage nor the shipping conditions affected the results significantly. © 2011 Taylor & Francis.

A process which uses a limestone powder suspension to convert CO 2 to water-soluble hydrogen carbonate bicarbonate has been developed. For this purpose, prescrubbed CO2-containing flue gases, such as occur in flue gas desulphurisation, are submitted to wet scrubbing using a suspension of limestone powder. Calcium hydrogen carbonate which also occurs as a natural constituent of limnic and oceanic waters, and thus fixes CO 2 in stable equilibrium, is formed, analogously to the natural weathering of limestone, rather than calcium sulphate. The results obtained confirm the process's suitability in principle for the removal of CO2 from flue gases and for the stable transportation of the carbonate hardness formed in the aqueous fluid. Only the test apparatus with an open gas and scrubbing-fluid circuit was used in the practical tests. CO2 concentration during these tests remained very largely constant, at around 11.8% vol., with only slight fluctuations of some ± 0.2%vol.
