Using the methods of powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and EXAFS spectroscopy, the phase behavior of bimetallic Pt–Cu nanoparticles with different architecture that are deposited on a highly disperse carbon carrier has been investigated during their thermal treatment in inert atmosphere. It is established that Pt–Cu nanoparticles with a Cu-core–Pt-shell structure rearrange into nanoparticles with a Pt–Cu solid-solution structure in the temperature range from 280 to 300°C. This transformation is accompanied by a sharp change in the unit-cell parameter. Such a change in the crystal lattice parameter does not occur during the thermal treatment of material with similar composition containing Pt–Cu nanoparticles with a solid-solution structure. The results can be used in elucidating the structure of Pt–M/C materials with different nanoparticle architectures. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The phase diagram of the ZnGeAs2-CdGeAs2 system was constructed using a set of physicochemical analysis methods (X-ray powder diffraction, differential thermal, and microstructural analyses). It was shown that there is a continuous series of solid solutions Zn x Cd 1 - x GeAs2 in the system at temperatures above 600 C. At temperatures below 600 C, there is a significant phase separation region. The solubility at room temperature on the side of ZnGeAs2 does not exceed 12 mol % CdGeAs2, and that on the side of CdGeAs2 is no more than 16 mol % ZnGeAs2. The change in the crystal lattice parameters of the solid solutions within these concentration ranges obeys Vegard's law, which is indicative of the mutual replacement of Zn and Cd in the cation sublattice of the compounds ZnGeAs2 and CdGeAs2. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The effect of severe plastic deformation of commercial alloy Zr-2.5% Nb by the method of equal-channel angular pressing on the mechanisms and kinetics of stress corrosion cracking in a 1% "iodine-methanol" medium is studied. Quantitative comparative data on corrosion resistance of the alloy with ultrafine-grain structure after equal-channel angular pressing and with coarse-grain structure after the traditional treatment are obtained. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

The Thermo-Calc software is used for quantitative analysis of the Al-Cu-Mn-Zr diagram as a base for creating new refractory aluminum alloys. Comparison of the characteristics of the phase composition of a commercial aluminum alloy of type 1201 and a novel ALTEK aluminum alloy is performed. The ranges of concentrations and temperatures are determined for obtaining a maximum content of Al20Cu2Mn3 dispersoids providing high refractoriness of the ALTEK alloy. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

This paper presents the results of experimental studies of acoustic emission occurring in rock-salt samples due to their local and volumetric heating under static mechanical loading preceding heating or occurring simultaneously with it. Thermoacoustic emission (TAE) parameters in rock salt depending on its structural heterogeneity were determined. Patterns of change in the TAE activity in test samples of the geomaterial under volumetric heating and subsequent cooling for different values of mechanical preloading were established. The established patterns can be used to predict the fracture of solid rock salt from results of measurement of a TAE in an extracted core. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
