The paper presents the experimental research concerning the galvanized steel welded joints made by CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) method. CMT method is applied to metallic materials with small thickness (maximum 3.0 mm), where there are rapid heat transfer phenomena during the weld cooling and the structural changes are difficult to control. Structural and mechanical characterization of galvanized steel mark DX51D+Z150-N-A-C with the thickness of 1.0 mm according to EN 10327:2004 welded using the electrode wire mark SG-CuSi3 according to DIN 1733, revealed structural and mechanical features that are similar to those of the galvanized steel. Finally, based on the obtained experimental results, it is estimated that the welded joints made from galvanized steel by CMT method have provided the structural and mechanical characteristics required to their promotion in industrial building of high responsibility.

The paper presents the experimental results obtained after the endurance tests of six hardened hammers on the external surface tested in a coal mill. Macro-microscopic examinations performed on the samples taken from hammers and subjected to endurance tests shows fine martensitic structure in the deposited layers with the hardness between 473 and 644 HV5, the values of the local hardening estimator does not exceed 26.55%. The endurance test durations chosen (240, 420, 657 and 813 hours) led to mass loss up to 4.0 kg at 420 hours, a period greater than the value of 250 hours imposed by the designer, thus proving the beneficial role of the deposited layers on the active surfaces of the coal hammers mill.

To achieve a modeling of the epithesis as close as possible to the lost organ, information on its size and shape can be registered by using computed tomography and 3D reconstruction. This paper aims to investigate to what extent the recording geometry of facial regions using computed tomography and identify on the sections of computed tomography the contour of the region to be reconstructed for virtual modeling of future silicone epithelium can be achieved. The results were obtained by applying the algorithm described in C + + program and contour detection in computed tomography images recorded preoperatively in patients who were to receive resection surgery of a facial region followed by reconstruction of the defect by facial epithesis.

The thermal sprayed coating layers are commonly used in industrial applications aiming to protect certain heavy loaded components. Depending on the specific application, they may be used as thermal barriers for base material's protection, for increasing the wear resistance or corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. Due to the importance of each specific application, the non-destructive evaluation of these coating layers is a current demand. The paper presents a NDT technique for quality assessment of Anticorrosive Aluminium Coatings by non-contact Active Infrared Thermography (IRT). This NDT method allowed obtaining useful quantitative information on sub-superficial lack of adhesion flaws (size and position). The paper also presents a thermogram processing algorithm for quantitative assessment of component's imperfections. This processing algorithm was designed and implemented using the Java™ technology, based on the following modules: image enhancing, image pre-processing, histogram and flaw area evaluation. The functionality of each module is described and illustrated by examples consisting of both monochrome (grey) and colour thermographic image sets. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
