The acceleration of final oocyte maturation and ovulation is recognized as a principal process in Caspian kutum Rutilus frisii kutum, a commercial and valuable species in Caspian Sea. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of catecholaminergic pharmaceutics which include Salbutamol (β2-adrenergic receptor agonist), Metoprolol (β1-adrenergic receptor antagonist), Clozapine and Olanzapine (the third generation of D4 and D2 dopamine receptor antagonists) which can be more efficient than the first and second generations, in combination with Buserelin ([D-Ser(tBu)6,Pro9-NEt]-GnRHa) and Ovaprim (D-Ala6,Pro9-Net)-sGnRH+Domperidone on ovulation and spawning induction in Caspian kutum. One hundred eight adult females were injected once with Buserelin Acetate (BUS) 5 μg kg-1 BW, Ovaprim 0.5 mL kg-1 BW, Salbutamol Sulphate (SLB) 4 mg kg-1 BW, Olanzapine (OLZ) 5 mg kg-1 BW, Clozapine (CZ) 12 mg kg-1 BW and Metoprolol Tartrate (MTP) 5 mg kg-1 BW, being divided into 12 groups: group 1, intact (negative control); group 2, Ovaprim (positive control); group 3, OLZ+SLB; group 4, OLZ+MTP; group 5, OLZ+BUS; group 6, CZ+SLB; group 7, CZ+MTP; group 8, CZ+BUS; group 9, OLZ+BUS+SLB; group 10, OLZ+BUS+MTP; group 11, CZ+BUS+SLB and group 12, CZ+BUS+MTP (N = 9). The results showed that the highest mean value in ovulation success, ovulation index, fertilization success, relative fecundity and the number of eggs belonged to Ovaprim treatment. On the other hand, spawning was successful in OLZ+BUS+SLB and CZ+BUS treatments (P < 0.05), whereas it was lower in CZ+MTP, CZ+BUS+MTP and OLZ+BUS than the other treatments. Therefore, it could be concluded that Clozapine and Olanzapine potentiated the effect of Buserelin treatment in ovulation and spawning induction, while Metoprolol blocked the stimulatory effects of GnRHa, Clozapine and Olanzapine. Salbutamol also can amplify stimulatory effect of all mentioned pharmaceutics. © 2016 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Background. Loach fishes, Cobitis sp., are found in the majority of streams in the southern Caspian Sea basin, but reproductive parameters of them are barely known. Reproductive conditions are key parameters of fish populations and their assessment is very important for several reasons. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to obtain reproductive characteristics of this fish which will be a first report for the basin. Materials and methods. Sampling was done at monthly intervals throughout the year and 226 individuals of Cobitis sp., were caught from the Babolrud River in the southern Caspian Sea basin, north of Iran. Age, sex ratio, fecundity, oocytes diameter, gonadosomatic- and modified gonadosomatic indices were estimated. Regression analyses were used to find relations between fecundity and fish size (length and weight), gonad weight, and age. Results. Sex ratio differed significantly from unity, and the percentage of females was greater than that of males. The mature females and males were longer than 45 and 35 mm in total length (+2 and +1 in age, respectively). The average egg diameter was 0.58 mm. The spawning took place from beginning of May to late July, when water temperature was between 19.1 and 24.6°C. Average GSI value at the beginning of the reproduction period was 8.93% and ranged between 4% and 26% in ripe, mature females. The average of absolute and relative fecundity was calculated 2172 and 590, respectively. The absolute fecundity was significantly related to body weight and gonad weight. Conclusion. Based on the pattern of gonadosomatic index, it was concluded that this fish has a prolonged active reproductive period. Their reproduction in this basin shows some differences from other reports, which might be related to different environmental conditions.

Some aspects of the reproductive biology of Cobitis keyvani (Mousavi-Sabet, Yerli, Vatandoust, Ozeren and Moradkhani, 2012), an endemic Loach fish species from the Talar River in the southern Caspian Sea basin, in north of Iran was studied by regular monthly collections throughout a year. Fecundity, condition factor, gonado-somatic, modified gonado-somatic and Dobriyal indices were estimated. Regression analyses tested the dependence of fecundity on fish length, weight, gonad weight and age. Significant differences were observed between the total number of females and males, females being more abundant. The mature females and males were longer than 49 and 45 mm in total length, and +2 and +1 in age, respectively. The average egg's diameter was 0.56 mm. The spawning of Cobitis keyvani from Talar River took place from May to late July, when the water temperature is between 18.7 to 24.0°C. At the beginning of the reproduction period, the average GSI values were 10.09%, ranging from 6 to 25% in ripe mature females. The absolute and relative fecundity were 2211 and 586 respectively. The absolute fecundity was significantly related to body weight and gonads weight. Based on the gonado-somatic and Dobriyal indices, it was concluded that the fish has a prolonged active reproductive period. Their long reproductive activity and high range of fecundity are types of adaptation by short-lived small fishes to environmental conditions.

Zinc (Zn) is an essential trace element in all living organisms, and the first eukaryotic Zn uptake transporter was discovered in the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Zinc-enriched yeast is a currently available Zn supplement. The purpose of the investigation was to compare and evaluate the effect of Zn enriched yeast in rainbow trout. The fish (mean body weight 10 ± 0.5 g) were fed a commercial diet supplemented with 0 (control), 1 × 106, 1 × 107 and 1 × 108 CFU/g of Zn-enriched yeast for 60-days. Results showed that significant increase in serum lysozyme activity, complement activity and total immunoglobulin were seen in all treatment groups during feeding trial when compared to the control group. On the basis of our findings, Zn-enriched improved rainbow trout growth, some immune parameters and disease resistance.

This experiment was carried out in Bandargah Station in Bushehr province. Peneaus semisulcatus larvae were fed on Spirulina platensis as supplementation microalgae. In order to use spirulina platensis in this study, we have to produce biomass and dry production of this microalga. Determination of length and survival rate of Peneaus semisulcatus larvae was carried out as the objective of the study. Treatments including Z plus (as a supplementation without spirulina), M.C.F (as an imported enriched spirulina), the powder combination of Spirulina platensis with Z plus and Spirulina platensis as live food were compared to Cheatocerus microalgae as a control. The experiment was carried out from nauplii stage to early post larvae. The results of the experiment indicated that the powder combination of Spirulina platensis with Z plus treatment has the most survival rate (76.5%). The maximum of length (4.3mm) observed in control (Cheatocerus spp.).The maximum mortality was observed in zoa stage in spirulina microalgae treatment, because the spiral filamentous of spirulina sp.was large.

Present study consist levels of heavy metals (Fe, Hg, Ni and Pb) in sediments and tissues of blue swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus from the Persian Gulf coasts, south Iran. The concentration of heavy metals in sediments at all sampling stations occurs in descending order of Fe > Ni > Hg > Pb. This study assessed the relationship between metals trace in hepatopancreasn tissue, muscle and exoskeleton with carapace width and weight. Significant increase in the metals levels in hepatopancreasn tissue (p<0.05) with an increase in carapace width and weight for this species. Hepatopancreasn accumulate higher levels of the metals in comparison to muscle and exoskeleton. Variation in heavy metals levels among the species is likely to have resulted from metal bioavailability, changes in tissue composition, organism size, age and locations. © 2015, National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR). Levels of mercury in tissues of Penaeus merguiensis from the Persian Gulf, was investigated. This study assessed the relationship between mercury levels in hepatopancreasn tissue, muscle and gonads with sex and season. Mercury content varied with type of size and sex. Results showed that hepatopancreas accumulate higher levels of the mercury in comparison to muscle and gonads. There was significant difference (p<0.05) in mercury levels between P. merguiensis sexes, higher mercury levels found in female than in males. There was significant difference (p<0.05) in mercury levels between different seasons, higher mercury levels found in July (summer season). The variation in mercury levels among the tissues is likely to have resulted from metal bioavailability, changes in tissue composition, organism size, sex and season. © 2015, National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR). Artificial reefs are used to compensate the destruction of marine ecosystems. In the present study, the effects of artificial reefs were compared to natural sites. For this purpose, five treatments including four different forms (Reef ball (R), Laneh Mahi (L), used materials (U) and R+L+U) of artificial reefs and one control were established. The reefs were deployed at Bandar Lengeh, the Persian Gulf. At each site, the fish sampling were carried out every three months for one year. According to data, significant differences (p<0.05) were found between the artificial reefs and the control sites in terms of Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE). Among the reef treatments, the best enhancement of CPUE was for the mixed form of reefs compared to other forms and control. The present study indicates that the artificial reefs deployed have enhanced the fish community.
