The calculations of stresses acting on the wall of boiler drum during the start-up process are presented in this paper. On the basis of the temperature measurements, which were carried out to determine the temperature distribution along the circumference of the outer wall of boiler drum, the temperature at the inner wall surface is determined using the inverse methods. The computations are carried out for the whole operation cycle of the power plant. Therefore, the pressure and temperatures are updated at consecutive time steps. These parameters allow determining the maximum values of circumferential, axial and Von Misses stresses during the operation cycle of steam boiler. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The synthesis of poly(amide-ester-imide) containing photosensitive cinnamate groups whose structure was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy (Fig. 1.) has been presented. After deposition of the synthesized polymer on a glass support, it was subjected to thermal imidization (Fig. 2.) and then to UV irradiation in the 250-380 nm range. In order to evaluate the applicability of the obtained polymer coatings in the orientation of nematic liquid crystals, their surface properties were determined on the basis of the contact angle measurements of a standard liquid (Figs 3, 4, 5). The value of the surface free energy (SFE) and its polar and dispersion components were then calculated the on the basis of the contact angle measurements obtained earlier for the polyimide coatings. It was confirmed that UV radiation of the coating leads to an increase in the SFE value. A prolongation of the duration of UV radiation caused an increase in the liophilic character of the coating leading to an increase in the polar, but a decrease in its dispersion components.

Maleic anhydride was added (2%) to rapeseed oils before their oxidn. at 150°C for 70 or 100 min to improve the stability of the oils. The oils were studied for fractional compn., kinematic viscosity, acid no. and peroxide value directly after the oxidn. and after 1 year long storage in air. The addn. of maleic anhydride resulted in a shortening of oxidn. time, increasing the oxidative stability of the oils and improving their lubricating capacity.

Two com. glycerol fractions (by-products from biodiesel prodn.) were ethoxylated with ethylene oxide on NaOH and Ca catalysts at 160°C and 120-360 kPa. The ethoxylation degree was higher but ethoxylation rate was lower when NaOH was used as the catalyst. The ethoxylates showed good lubricating properties.

Tech. fatty acids from rape oil refining waste were enzy-matically esterified with long-chain ales, and used as additives to lube oils. The oils showed good lubricating, rheolog., antioxidative and anticorrosion properties.
