Power losses in superconducting transformer consist of losses in superconducting windings, losses in iron core, losses in current leads and losses in cryostat. These losses can be divided into the load losses (depending on transformer’s load) and permanent losses. The comparative analysis of power losses and efficiency of conventional and superconducting transformers for example, 63MVA copper winding transformer, and the same power rated superconducting transformer, with windings made of 2G (second generation) superconducting tape, were carried out. © 2014, Wydawnictwo SIGMA - N O T Sp. z o.o. The design and control of 4L-DC back-to-back converter are presented. To solve the DC link voltage balancing problem in four-level converter a new three-level double chopper topology based on PO-PWM modulation was designed and successfully tested. The paper also contains descriptions of two phase pulse width modulation 2P-PWM technique. The control structure with modified Dead-Beat controller was also considered. Source

This article presents the results of an experimental investigation of a 1-phase model of a superconducting transformer, with special regard to the possibility of limiting the short-circuit current by the superconducting winding, according to the parameters of the HTS tapes used, in particular their resistivity in normal state at a temperature of 77 K.
