Water is a critical factor in the management of rice crop, however, the effect of the height of the flood sheet has not been studied deeply. The work aimed to evaluate the effect of different layers of flooding in the development and production of the rice plant in Calabozo, Guárico state, with the variety Fonaiap 1, in the cycle of watering of the year 1996, during the months of January - May. We used a randomized block design with four replications in slot arrangement. It tested three water heights: L0 (Saturation), L10 (10 cm height) and L20 cm tall. We evaluated growth parameters, production and performance. The analysis of correlation, covariance and variance indicated that there is simple relationship between the variables studied. The variety Fonaiap 1, increases the yield decreases the water sheet. No significant differences were found between L0 and L10 (8,600 and 8,500 kg.ha-1), but between L0 and L20 (6,800 kg/ha). The most heavily weighted variable in performance was the number of panicles/m, with 635 to L0; 562.2 and 463 for L10 and L20 respectively with the same statistical pattern. The reduction in the amount of water was used for L0 to 52.2% compared with L10 and L20. The results suggest that saturation irrigation provides performance and significant savings in the amount of water used, allowing to increase the planting area. Source

Combined use of geographical information systems, digital elevation model, remote sensing, analogue and/or digital maps, meteorological data, and field visits, is useful in generating information and mapping of environmental and socioeconomics parameters. This information is necessary to achieve a land evaluation for rainfed agriculture. The objective of this work was to obtain the digital maps necessary to make this evaluation in Torres municipality of Lara state. Climatic data from meteorological stations, mathematic equations and interpolation techniques were used to map and define four climatic demarcations: semiarid, dry subhumid, humid subhumid, and humid. Physiographic maps were derived from a digital elevation model (DEM) of municipality, differencing three types of landscapes: high mountains, low mountains and "miscellaneous". Non-spatial attributes to the spatial entities in the geological and soils map were enlarged through bibliographical information. Thematic maps of hydrology and covert were generated through digitization of analogue maps and brought up to date with an image Landsat. The map, land use type was obtained from a survey applied to farmers from municipality. As a result of these procedures, information and mapping of environmental and social parameters of Torres Municipality were generated, which can be very useful for accurate evaluation of lands. The knowledge of the existing genetic diversity in the sugarcane germplasm is the key to the processes of genetic improvement, because it allows making crosses more effectively with the aim to get new cultivars. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of 62 progenitors of the sugarcane breeding program from the National Institute of agricultural research (INIA) using molecular markers TRAPS. During 2011, in the laboratory of Molecular Biology of the Foundation Institute of advanced studies (IDEA), Venezuela, seven initiators were evaluated for marker TRAPS. With the seven fixed initiators and two arbitrary ones were obtained 1303 all polymorphic bands whose size ranged between 84 and 760 pb with an average of 93 bands per combination of initiators. Three genotype groups were formed in which individuals are projected without a pattern associated with its origin. These groups presented a genetic similarity average 0.51±0.0069, 0.49±0.0057 and 0.48 ± 0.0057, respectively. Genetic diversity among groups was significantly (P<0.05) different among them. Although this genetic variability in parents seems to be small, it can be optimized in future cross with the purpose of obtaining greater variability or sugar content in new sugarcane cultivars. © 2015 Universidad del Zulia. In order to asses the leukocyte response generated in anaemic calves infected with gastrointestinal nematodes, blood and feces samples were taken from 76 crossbred calves for hematologic and coprologic analysis. In anaemic animals the leukocyte count showed no signifi cant change in presence or not of parasites (11.88 and 12.50 x 103/ul, respectively). In animals without anaemia most cases of parasitic infections were mild to moderate, presenting an increased leukocyte count only in mild cases. The lymphocytes were the predominant cell type in the response with presence of eosinophils and neutrophils. In anaemic animals most were moderate to severe cases, the total leukocyte, lymphocyte, eosinophil and neutrophil counts did not show signifi cant change in mild and moderate cases, with a signifi cant decrease in serious cases (P<0.05). It is suggested that in anaemic calves there is no adequate leukocyte response to parasite challenge, with a high number of severe cases. © 2013, Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agricolas (INIA).
