This paper describes the development of a single controller of DFB lasers for the simultaneous detection of multiple gases in the near infrared. A preliminary version of the system was implemented by use of a PIC18F4550 microcontroller, an oscillator, D/A converters, solid-state relays, DFB lasers and auxiliary circuitry. A preliminary performance analysis was carried out to determine the system capability in controlling two DFB lasers as well as to evaluate the system performance in detecting the absorption line of carbon monoxide at the wavelength 1568.036 nm. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper presents a practical implementation of a S-Band 4-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement Subsystem based on microstrip multibandstop filters. The outputs are converted using RF detectors and digitized using an Arduino® board. Filter design is based on open-loop resonators. Sub-band is determined by calculating the average value of m measures and standard deviation is used to further improve reliability. This paper discusses the key requirements for this design and presents experimental results for the sub-band determination. © 2015 IEEE.

The authors present a novel compact 3-bit interferometer based on Hilbert fractal geometry for application to Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) system operating in the range 4.66-6.38 GHz. The interferometers use two-way Wilkinson power dividers connected to two microstrip line with different signal delays, where one of these microstrip lines is based on Hilbert fractal curve. A full wave EM simulator is used to obtain the frequency response. Simulated responses are presented and compared to theoretical results. © 2015 IEEE.

This research presents impacts of benefits of the ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning) implementations in two companies in Pernambuco, Brazil. It was carried out two case studies and an exploratory research, interviewed agents of Supply, Making, Sales and Distribution, Finances, Accounting and Information Technology (IT)), applied questionnaires for agents, end-users and employers. The information aimed that the motivations for adoption of ERP systems screw needs of organizational control, processes standardize, management and to attend Brazilians legislations. Business better practices and cost-benefit were of moderate meanings. This study show it were important the benefits and the contributions for the business growth in the companies.

Polymorphisms in chemokine receptors play an important role in the progression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) to cervical cancer (CC). Our study examined the association of CCR2-64I (rs1799864) andCCR5-32 (rs333) polymorphisms with susceptibility to develop cervical lesion (CIN and CC) in a Brazilian population. The genotyping of 139 women with cervical lesions and 151 women without cervical lesions for the CCR2-64I and CCR5-32 polymorphisms were performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The individuals carrying heterozygous or homozygous genotypes (GA+AA) for CCR2-64I polymorphisms seem to be at lower risk for cervical lesion [odds ratio (OR) = 0.37, p = 0.0008)]. The same was observed for the A allele (OR = 0.39, p = 0.0002), while no association was detected (p > 0.05) with CCR5-32 polymorphism. Regarding the human papillomavirus (HPV) type, patients carrying the CCR2-64Ipolymorphism were protected against infection by HPV type 16 (OR = 0.35, p = 0.0184). In summary, our study showed a protective effect ofCCR2-64I rs1799864 polymorphism against the development of cervical lesions (CIN and CC) and in the susceptibility of HPV 16 infection.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of partial or total replacement of Tifton 85 hay with fresh or dehydrated spineless cactus on performance and body weight components of sheep. Thirty hair lambs, with 19 kg ± 0.35 kg initial weight, were randomly divided into five treatments, namely: Tifton 85 Hay (HA); Tifton 85 Hay + fresh spineless cactus (HAFC); Tifton 85 Hay + dehydrated spineless cactus (HADC); fresh spineless cactus (FC); dehydrated spineless cactus (DC). In addition to the spineless cactus and hay, the complete mixture contained soybean meal, mineral salt and limestone in all treatments. Animals were confined for 75 days and then slaughtered. The weight of body components was recorded. Dry matter intake, total digestible nutrients intake and voluntary water intake were higher (p < 0.05) for the DC and HADC treatments. The average daily gain was 118 g day-1 and body weight at slaughter of 25.8 kg were not influenced (p > 0.05) by treatments. The cold carcass weight, rib eye area, weight and yield of the skin, liver, kidney and large intestine were higher (p < 0.05) for the DC and HADC treatments. Partial or total replacement of Tifton 85 hay with fresh or dehydrated spineless cactus, in complete diets for sheep, increases the weight of the cold carcass and non-carcass components. © 2016, Eduem - Editora da Universidade Estadual de Maringa. Soil moisture estimation is very important in decision making regarding agricultural practices and investigations in hydrology. The aim of the study was to evaluate surface soil moisture temporal stability under two cover crop conditions in an experimental watershed in the Brazilian semi-arid region, aiming to identify stable points, thus reducing monitoring costs and highlighting the importance of temporal stability in a watershed. Fourty five soil moisture monitoring campaigns in the layers of 0-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m were conducted using a capacitance probe (Diviner – 2000®) during the period from 10/07/2010 to 03/25/2014, with soil cover under native bushy vegetation and degraded pasture, predominantly Brachiaria decumbens. Temporal stability was evaluated through the mean relative difference technique. The point located at the middle of a slope under pasture and bushes was the most stable, with determination coefficient of 90 and 92% for both layers. © 2016 Departamento de Engenharia Agricola - UFCG/Cnpq. The qualitative aspects of water, such as the preparation or replenishment of the nutrient solution, are critical to the success of hydroponic crops. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of “Americana” lettuce (cv. Tainá) under increasing levels of saline stress (0.2 - control, 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, 4.2 and 5.2 dS m-1), replenishing the evapotranspiration with brackish water in Experiment I and supply water (0.2 dS m-1) in Experiment II, both used in the preparation of the nutrient solution. In both experiments, the treatments were arranged in a randomized block design, with six treatments and four replicates. Shoot fresh matter, shoot dry matter and leaf area in Experiment I suffered reductions of 15.22, 12.67 and 15.6% per unit increase of EC, respectively. In Experiment II, reductions of 8.01, 6.90 and 8.14% were observed for the same variables, respectively. In Experiments I and II, linear decrease in water consumption due to the increase in salinity was observed, with reductions of 8.83 and 5.63% for each unit increase of electrical conductivity of water when the evapotranspiration was replenished using brackish and supply water, respectively. © 2015, Departamento de Engenharia Agricola - UFCG/Cnpq. The aim of the present experiment was to assess the effect of the association of the spineless cactus with sunflower silage, sorghum silage, leucena hay, pigeon pea hay or elephant grass hay on intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients and ruminal measures in mixed breed sheep, with fistulas in the rumen. Five sheep with a mean body weight of 30kg (±0,3), were distributed in 5x5 Latin squares. Intake of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, total carbohydrates, total digestible nutrients (in kg/day), neutral detergent fiber (in % of live weight), apparent digestibility of crude protein and non-fiber carbohydrates were not influenced by the association of spineless cactus and the silages or hays. Ether extract intake was greater for the elephant grass hay treatment in comparison to sunflower silage and similar to the sorghum silage and hays. Apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, ether extract, neutral detergent fiber and total carbohydrates was not influenced by the association of spineless cactus and silages or hays. Apparent digestibility of dry matter for sorghum silage was higher in comparison to the leucena hay and elephant grass hay. There was no significant difference between pH and ruminal ammonia concentration for the treatments at different sampling times. The association of spineless cactus and silages or hays did not alter dry matter intake and energy. Sorghum silages and sunflower and leucena, pigeon pea and elephant grass hay associated the spineless cactus show a good food alternative to sheep in semiarid region of the northeastern Brazil.

Underground water reserves in the semi-arid region of Brazil are stored in the crystal formations that in large part have high concentrations of salt. However, the scarcity of this resource makes the use of this water necessary for various activities, including agriculture. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of brackish water on the electrical conductivity and pH of the nutrient solution, and on the production, water consumption and the uptake of nutrients in Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis L.) under a hydroponic system. The experimental design was completely randomised, with four replications and six levels of water salinity (0.2, 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, 4.2 and 5.2 dS m-1), obtained by adding NaCl to the local water supply, with this water being used to prepare the nutrient solution and to make up the volume lost through evapotranspiration. The results showed that with the exception of the treatment at the lowest salinity, there was a tendency to increased electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution with the increasing salinity of the water; that the pH of the nutrient solution remained within the normal range throughout the cycle; that with the increasing salinity of the solution there was a reduction in all growth and production variables under analysis, in water consumption, and in leaf N, K, Ca and Mg, and an increase in leaf concentrations of Na and Cl. It is possible to use brackish water for the production of Chinese cabbage when grown hydroponically as an alternative for those producers who have an available supply of brackish water and a restricted supply of fresh water, however with a reduction in productivity.
