This paper presents further developments towards automatic Laryngeal diseases classification by employing Cepstral coefficients to represent the voice signals, and a classification pipeline employing Multilayer Perceptron Neural Networks and Gaussian Mixture Models for discrimination among normal voice, voices affected by local fold Edema and voices affected by other pathologies (nodules, cysts and paralysis). Laryngeal diseases affect many professionals who use their voices as the main working tool, and conventional diagnosis techniques of these diseases are typically invasive, causing much discomfort to the patient. In recent years, Digital Voice Processing techniques have been investigated to produce non-invasive systems to aid diagnosis by a specialist. This work proposes a method of analysis that is aligned with the non-invasive approach. An experimental evaluation has highlighted the promising results of the proposed method: (a) discrimination between normal and pathological voices with a correct classification rate above 93 % for normal voice and above 94 % for pathological voice; and (b) discrimination between edema and other pathological voices with a correct classification rate above 76% for edema voice and above 85% for other pathologies. © 2013 IEEE. The measurement of nuclear magnetic resonance parameters in an anisotropic media, such as residual dipolar coupling (RDC), has proven to be an excellent methodology for the refinement of chemical structures, being used as a complementary tool in the determination of the relative configuration, conformation, and constitution of organic compounds. In this study, we applied this methodology to determine the relative configuration of α-santonin, a natural product with four stereocenters, while assigning its prochiral methylene protons using only the RDCs obtained in a polyacrylonitrile polymer gel swollen in DMSO-d6. Length-weight (LWR) and length-length relationships (LLR) are presented for 135 freshwater fish species sampled by several types of fishing gear between April 2012 and July 2014 in the middle and lower Xingu River Basin, northern Brazil. The report represents the first references on LWRs and LLRs for 114 and 119 species, respectively, and also provides a new maximum size for 96 species. © 2015 Blackwell Verlag GmbH. Source

The Agile Manifesto states that agile projects should focus on individuals and interactions over processes and tools. Agile teams are self-directed and considered one of the most valuable assets of the project. This requires the team members to be collaborative and embrace the concept of whole-team responsibility and commitment. Factors that influence teamwork quality such as team orientation, team leadership, and coordination in addition to highly specialized skills and corresponding division of work are barriers for achieving team effectiveness. To assist on the assessment of agile teamwork quality, in this paper, we present a Bayesian networks-based model. The model considers agile teams principles and industry best practices. We validated the model with simulated scenarios. The results are promising and encourage its usage to assess agile teams teamwork quality to promote continuous improvement. © 2015 IEEE. Source

The plants respond differently to the effects of salts in the distinct phases of their cycle, some grow and produce properly with economic viability in soils with high salinity, others, such as passion fruit development are compromised by the action of saline soil and irrigation water. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of increasing levels of salinity of irrigation water in soil treated with different frequencies of application of bovine biofertilizers on vegetative growth veal yellow passion fruit. The experiment was randomized block with treatments distributed in a 5 x 4 factorial design corresponding to levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water of 0.5; 1.5; 2.5; 3.5 and 4.5 dS m-1 and four frequencies of the application of bovine biofertilizer: absence of biofertilizer (SB); application of bovine biofertilizer one week before transplanting (1SAT); application every 90 days after transplanting (90DAT); and, applied one week before and every 90 days after transplanting (1SAT+90DAT). The electrical conductivity of irrigation water reducing the growth of passion fruit, delaying the timing of flowering of culture. The biofertilizer 1SAT and 1SAT+90DAT, the largest number of applications stimulated the growth of yellow passion fruit plants mitigating the effects of saline irrigation water. Source
