Power quality problems have received a great attention nowadays because of their economical impacts on both utilities and customers. The current harmonics is the most common problem of power quality, while voltage sags is the most severe. This paper deals with an Unified Power Quality Conditioner for current and voltage perturbations compensation in a power distribution network. The topology is based on two 3-phase voltage source inverters acting respectively as a parallel active power filter and a series active power filter which share two DC link capacitors. The power flow, in the Unified Power Quality Conditioner system is analysed. A novel hysteresis current and voltage control methods of Unified Power Quality Conditioner are studied with the aim to have robust control of the output voltage of series part and the output current of the parallel part. The DC voltage controller optimizes the energy storage of the DC capacitor where a fuzzy logic controller is developed. Simulation results are presented and discussed to verify the dynamical behaviour of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner and to show the effectiveness of the used perturbation identification methods and hysteresis band adaptive controllers. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. This paper addresses issues on the assessment of the performance degradation caused by decreasing channel state information (CSI) of cooperative communication systems that employ opportunistic decode-and-forward (DF) relay under Nakagami-m fading conditions. Exact closed-form performance expressions are derived for the end-to-end average symbol error probability (ASEP) for both partial- and full-CSI relaying schemes over a sufficiently wide range of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regions. Finally, the performances of the two schemes in terms of ASEP are compared, and the system performance degradation caused by decreasing CSI is investigated through both analysis and simulations. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes a pulsed eddy current nondestructive evaluation of an annular groove dimensions using a simplex inversion method associated with a semianalytical direct model, in axisymmetric case. The proposed semianalytical formulation, used for direct calculations, is developed from coupled electric circuits modeling. It uses the current excitation allowing the determination of the sensor voltage. The feature of the variation of voltage provides information on the electromagnetic and geometrical properties of the device. The transient sensor voltage is then calculated, allowing the evaluation of the groove dimensions of the considered work piece. The peak's amplitude and the zero and peak crossing times are used to determine these properties. © 2015 IEEE.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations for anatomical studies on collection specimens are becoming more and more frequent. As the presence of metallic objects within the specimens can disturb the acquisition of images and damage both specimens and materials, a simple protocol using radiographs is here proposed to detect these objects in collection specimens before conducting an MRI examination. © 2011 Académie des sciences.

A harmonic rejection mixer has been designed for DVB-T reception in VHFIII frequency band. It exhibits 21.3 dB noise figure, 29 dBm input IP3, and 67 dBm input IP2 over the 48-300 MHz frequency range. The third and fifth harmonics are suppressed by more than 60 dB thanks to phase error calibration. The 0.39 mm2 active die is fabricated in 40-GHz fT Bi-CMOS process consuming 38 mA from a 3.3 V supply including the LO chain. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) control for wind energy generation. The DFIG model is established and the adopted control strategies for machine side and grid side converters are described. Flicker phenomenon is defined and its emission of variable speed wind turbine with DFIG during continuous operation is studied. Calculation of flicker severity is evaluated using flickermeter. In this paper, we investigate the exploitation of the polarimetric diversity signal properties in a bistatic polarimetric MIMO radar to improve the performance of joint estimation of direction of arrival (DOA) and direction of departure (DOD) of targets using combined ESPRIT-RootMUSIC technique. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach.

A new method for joint direction of arrival (DOA)-direction of departure (DOD) estimation in bistatic MIMO radar is proposed. This method, based on the decomposition of the 2D direction finding into double 1D direction finding, uses the ESPRIT method to estimate the DOD and the Root-MUSIC for the DOA estimation. Some simulation results are presented to verify the efficiency of this approach. © 2010 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

For each class, a closed-form expression is proposed, and a particular element, having an imaginary part of its frequency response very close to the ideal value, is presented. For horizontally and vertically polarized line sources in HF-VHF band, a detailed analysis of the propagation over one-dimensional highly-conducting smooth and rough sea surfaces is addressed from an efficient rigorous numerical method: the method of moments combined with the BMIA-CAG approach and with the impedance boundary condition (Leontovitch approximation). This method can treat a huge problem, typically, ranging from 200 000 to 300 000 for the number of unknowns on the surface, which allows us to show, for the TM polarization, the ground wave propagation over a long distance. The contribution of the surface wave is then exhibited for a smooth sea surface and compared with the Collin asymptotic formulation deduced from the Sommerfeld integral. The surface roughness effect on the propagation is also investigated. © 2006 IEEE.
