The aminoacylation of bacterial polysaccharide antigens and its biological role are poorly understood, although it might be relevant in infection and immunity. Due to the lability of ester-linked substituents on glycoconjugate antigens, such groups usually escape detection during routine structural investigation. Of the few data available, those on the occurrence of glycine in the endotoxic lipopolysaccharides of Gram-negative bacteria are well documented. This article summarizes these data on glycine as an integral constituent of bacterial LPS and also some other amino-acid esters in the teichoic acids and phosphatidylglycerol of Gram-positive bacteria. The possible functions of such noncarbohydrate ester-linked substituents in bacterial antigens are discussed. Because glycine, an inherent component of bacterial lipopolysaccharides in the core region, is supposed to participate in epitope formation, such a structure may be considered for potential use in the construction of a vaccine with broad specificity. © 2011 Bentham Science Publishers. Results from testing the dust control efficiency, when using air-water spraying system in comparison to the typical water spraying system are presented in the paper. The tests were carried out in conditions of longwall mining and at the places of run-of-mine transportation. Also the results of stand tests of different types of nozzles both for air-water and for water spaying systems carried out at KOMAG's laboratory and in real conditions are presented. The benefits resulting from air-water spraying system have been determined. Source

Two variants of solvent extraction method (by Soxhlet and ultrasonic) for phthalate esters (DEHP) recoveries in PVC samples were compared. Solvent and extraction time for both techniques were also studied. DEHP content was quantified by GC-MS. The results obtained were compared using statistical methods (LSD test, t-test). 16-Hours DCM Soxhlet and 2-h DCM ultrasonic extraction methods were more convenient with respect to recovery, precision and practicability. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Methods for verification of virtual prototypes of powered roof support and falling object protective structure (FOPS) for operator for technical criterion were presented in the paper. In the case of powered roof support resistance strain gauge measurements and geometrical measurements were used. Method of building of computational models and their further modifications for the purpose of comparison of results was presented. Potential reasons of differences between results of stand tests and results of virtual tests were showed. The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of existing mining locomotive propulsion systems used in the Polish underground mines. The method to design a new propulsion system with recuperation of energy is presented. Conclusions and recommendations for necessity of controlling the volume of recuperated energy closely correlated with amount of electrolytic gas emissions are given. Source
