Engineering Optimization | Year: 2017

Theoretical analysis for defining the function of displacements of a hub’s external contour points and the microgeometry of the friction surface, ensuring minimization of the thermal state of the hub of a friction pair, is performed based on the model of rough friction surfaces and minimax criterion. A closed system of algebraic equations is constructed, allowing the solution to the problem of the optimal design of the friction pair to be obtained, depending on geometric and thermophysical characteristics of the hub and plunger. The resulting functions of displacements of the hub’s external contour points and microgeometry of the friction surface ensure the increased serviceability of the friction pair. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

We consider an elastic isotropic plate reinforced by stringers and weakened by a periodic system of rectilinear slots of variable width. The variable width of the slots is comparable with elastic deformations. We study the case when the slots faces get in contact at some area. Determination of parameters characterizing the partial closure of variable width slots is reduced to the solution of a singular integral equation. The action of the stringers is replaced with unknown equivalent concentrated forces at the points of their connection with the plate. The contact stresses and contact zone sizesare found from the solution of the singular integral equation. Copyright © 2017 Techno-Press, Ltd.

The problem of fracture mechanics of crack nucleation in plunger pair bushing is considered. It is assumed that under the repeated reciprocating motion of a plunger there happens crack nucleation and a failure of materials of pair elements. Crack nucleuses are simulated by a bridged prefracture zone that is considered as areas of weakened interparticle bonds of the material. It is assumed that the inner boundary of the bushing is close to the annular one and has rough surfaces.

Interaction of arbitrarily located system of rectilinear bridged cracks is considered. It is assumed that the mixed boundary conditions are given on the boundary of the circular disk. It is accepted that the fracture zone is a finite length layer containing a material with partially disturbed bonds between its separate structural elements (end zone). Existence of bonds between the cracks surfaces in the end zones is simulated by application of cohesive forces caused by the presence of bonds to the crack surfaces. Limit equilibrium analysis of cracks is formulated, taking account the criterion of the limit traction of the bonds in the material at the edge of the cracks end zone.

The concept of t-frame associated with the tensor product of Hilbert spaces is introduced. All the properties of ordinary frames are extended to this case. A model of a circular disk fracture based on consideration of the fracture process zone near the curvilinear crack tip is suggested. It is considered that mixed boundary conditions are given on the boundary of the disk. It is accepted that the fracture process zone is a finite length layer with a material with partially broken bonds between its separate structural elements (end zone). A plane problem of failure mechanics is considered for concentrically integrated cylinders. It is assumed that the drawing die (internal cylinder) is negative allowance strengthened by means of external cylinder (holder), and near the surface of the drawing die there are N arbitrarily located rectilinear cracks of length 2lk (k=1,2,...,N). Theoretical analysis on definition the negative allowance providing minimization of failure parameters (stress intensity factors) of drawing die was carried out on minimax criterion. A simplified method for minimization the failure parameters of a hard alloy drawing die was separately considered.
