New results of geoelectric measurements were obtained during the season works of 17 Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition (XVII UAE, 2012). New data on the deep structure of the tectonic zone between the Falkland Islands and the South Shetland Islands make it possible to estimate the probable nature of geodynamic processes in this region. Deep geoelectric boundaries position and nature of their contacts near the South Shetland Islands and the Falkland Islands show a fundamentally different distribution of crustal and mantle layers in the Strait structures with continental and oceanic rock complexes. The results of the of petroleum potential assessment of individual fragments of the surveyed area are analyzed in the report. Emphasis is placed on the results of marine geoelectric measurements. Some anomalous zones of "hydrocarbon deposit" type were detected in the South Falkland Basin shelf by the special technology of satellite data processing and interpretation using. The "deposit" type anomalies were mapped by FSPEF survey and anomalous polarized layers of "hydrocarbon deposit" type were chosen by VERS sounding within these anomalies in the South Falkland Basin. These results are new and additional to oil and gas potential data for the South and East Falkland Basins zones. Source

The results to experimental approbation within Barents Sea offshore of technology of the remote sensing (RS) data processing and interpretation for the "direct" prospecting and exploration the hydrocarbon (HC) deposits are analyzed. Technology allows to find and map operatively the anomalous zones of "oil deposit" and (or) "gas deposit" type, which are conditioned by the HC deposits of different sizes and under different (including zero) values of reservoir pressure of fluids. Zones with raised reservoir pressure within mapped anomalies fix the areas, within which the probability of receiving of commercial inflow of HC are substantially above. For the region of Skrugard and Havis oilfields location the new and, the main thing, independent information on prospects of its oil-and-gas content has been received. Unlike seismic and geoelectric data it can be classified as "a direct sign of oil-and-gas content". This information can be used for localization of sites of detailed prospecting works carrying out, and also for a choice of optimum places for the searching and prospecting wells location. Source

Many years' using of the non-classical geoelectric methods of forming short-pulsed electromagnetic field (FSPEF) and vertical electric-resonance sounding (VERS) for the varied problems of near-surface geophysics solving has shown the possibility of their application for the aquifers searching and contouring. The multiple experiments testify that areal survey by FSPEF method allows to find and map operatively the zones of soils (rocks) moistening, the underground water flows of natural and man-caused origins and the aquifers. The bedding depths and thicknesses of water-saturated layers are defined in cross-section with high accuracy by VERS sounding. Works of such nature are carried out enough operatively and quickly. The preprocessing and interpretation of measurement data in field condition allows directly on place of the measurements undertaking to indicate the places of wells location. The FSPEF-VERS technologies efficiency is demonstrated by practical example of the optimum places determination for the water-supply wells locations. Source

The results of practical application of the non-traditional geoelectric methods of forming a short-pulsed electromagnetic field (FSPEF) and vertical electric-resonance sounding (VERS), as well as georadar sounding on destroyed by the landslide process area of Kiev-Odessa highway are given. It is shown, that the presence of the zones with raised filtering of ground waters is the main reason of roadway erosion and landslides formation. The detection and mapping of underground water flows and areas with the raised soil moistening can be realized operatively by complex of used geophysical methods. The areal survey by FSPEF method allows finding and mapping operatively the underground water flows of natural and man-caused origins and the zones of soils moistening. The bedding depths and thicknesses of water-saturated layers are defined in cross-section by VERS sounding. This complex of geoelectric methods can be used also for regular monitoring of the engineering-geological condition of environment on landslide-dangerous areas of roads. Source
