We continue the history of establishing nature conservation areas with the overview of the 5 years between 1966 and 1970. All data in the article belong to nature conservation areas classified by the IUCN. According to this database the most areas in number were established in Germany, almost half of those were landscape protection areas, the other half were nature reserves. Most of the areas belong to IUCN category IV (Habitat/Species Management Area: protected area managed mainly for conservation through management intervention) but 154 different national categories are represented among the designated areas. From the areas sizes the smallest areas are dominant, 46 % belong here. Only two Hungarian protected area get on the IUCN list, both representing nature conservation areas. We can state that compared to the previous five years, the number of established areas grew again between 1966 and 1970 from 1864 to 2353. From the history of nature conservation the highlight of this period is the designation of the Gombe National Park of Tanzania, the Petra National Park of Jordan, and the creation of a new name for the first Australian national park, renamed from The National Park to Royal.

Following the previous examined period (1966-1970.) there were 3908 designations of protected areas between 1971 and 1975 on Earth. One third of these designations belong to the IUCN category III while another third belongs to the IUCN category IV. Data analyzed in the article is based on the protected areas listed in the IUCN database. According to that most of the designations (779) were in Ukraine between 1971 and 1975. In the present five analyzed years (1971-1975) the growth of the designations stopped, there were less areas designated than in the previous five year period. In the analyzed period of 1971 and 1975 220 national categories existed. Among the size of the areas the 0-99 ha areas outnumbered all other (almost half of the designated areas belong to this size), however only 0,015% of all established protected area belongs here from the spatial distribution point of view. 14 Hungarian protected areas appear in the IUCN database in this period. An important action took place in this period, the establishment of the first Hungarian national park on the Hortobágy area in 1973. Two areas have extreme sizes in this period. One of them is the North East Greenland National Park with 97.2 million hectare. The other area is the Great Barrier Reef Marie Park in Australia with its 34.4 million hectare area. We can state that this period was outstanding from the point of view of area enlargements of the protected areas.

We continue the history of establishing nature conservation areas with the overview of the 5 years between 1961 and 1965. All data in the article belong to nature conservation areas classified by the IUCN. According to this database the most areas in number were established in Germany. 210 of these are nature reserves, 195 are landscape protection districts and 19 are nature parks. Most of the areas belong to IUCN category IV but there were 122 different national categories among the designated areas in this period. Sizes were in the lowest category (0-99 ha). 2 of the Hungarian protected areas were included on the IUCN list, all of them belongs to the category of nature conservation area. We can state that compared to the previous five years the number of established protected areas grew again between 1961 and 1965. Between 1956 and 1960 there were 1553 established while between 1961 and 1965 there were 1864 newly established.

The surrounding of Kiskunhalas as the other parts of the Homokhátság area is continuously getting drier. As a consequence, some habitats like shallow salty lakes got into danger. During our research data series of numerous rainfall gauge and soil water wells were analyzed and figures show the rate of their decrease. Our examination was made from landscape ecological point of view and not a complex water balance study. The drying of the Homokhátság has been under hydrological examination for a long time. In the present article a selected site is examined from the point of view of changing precipitation and water table level since these are the two major sources of water supply of shallow salty lakes thus the analyses of the reason of change is important. Finally possible solution for water supply is analyses at the Sós-tó of Kiskunhalas.

There has been 4871 established between 1976 and 1980 all over the world. All data in the article belong to nature conservation areas classified by the IUCN. According to this database the largest number of established protected category (38.65%) belonged to IUCN category IV (Habitat/Species Management area: protected area managed mainly for conservation through management intervention) in the examined time period. According to the IUCN database Ukraine established the biggest number (915) of protected areas. As time passes by, not only the number of protected areas grows but the types of national categories, too. Between 1976 and 1980 there were 185 national categories in use. Area sizes differed from average, the majority was between 0 and 99 ha, and however it was only the 0.028% area of all protected lands. 36 protected areas were listed from Hungary. The Bükk National Park, 10 landscape protection districts and 25 nature conservation area were listed by IUCN from this period. We can state that the number of areas grew, compared to the 3908 areas established between 1971 and 1975, there were 4871 established between 1976 and 1980. There were numerous events in this period that were important in nature conservation history, one of them was the creation of the Ranthambore National Park in India known for its tiger population, the other one was the famous Australian geological and spiritual memorial, the Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park.
