Based on the concept of damage index, seismic damag investigation at 170 spots for five building types in Wenchuan earthquake (Ms8.0) is described in this paper Mean damage indexes and variance are calculated for all building types in seianic htensity zone fron VI to XI. Results show that themean damage indexes are consistent will corresponding values in the Chinese seismic intensity scale for VII to X intensity zones Abnormity in VI intensity zone is caused by the distribution of survey spots, while abnormity in XI intesit zonem ay be influenced by the spots distrbution and the determined intensity area. Damage index is high and strongly discrete and quickly decreases with in 50 km to the fault, while it is weak and stable in farther area The damage attenuation relationships for all building types are fitted by using log-log linear equation. At last the damage index of brick-concrete building is compared with other four building types at same survey spot The comparison shows that the aseianic performance difference is nonlinear at different damage degrees. Real-time earthquake location is one of the key issues thatmust be solved in earthquake early waming (EEW) system. In this paper, based on the real-time earthquake location method that is used in EEW systems and the real situation of seismic monitoring nework in ourcountry, we deduce a formula that just use the first 3 or 4 stations' P/S wave travel time infomation We select 68 earthquakes, occurred during 2000-2008 the magnitudes of which are greater than 3.0 to test this method Results show that our method has certain precision and meet the EEW systan's requirements Also we discuss the errors thatm ightbe aroused when using this formula, and error distrbution when we use the existing seinic monitoring network in Fujian Province and that after the completion of the eleventh Five Year Constiuction Plan for EEW purpose, respecfively.
