Wood plays a key role in meeting energy demand in India, particularly in rural areas; its share in total energy consumption of the country is estimated to be about 18%. Traditionally wood is mostly used as fuel in household cooking; small quantities are also used in other applications such as restaurants, brick and tile manufacturing and agro-processing. The energy crisis of 1973 triggered interest in use of wood in modern applications, initially in gasifiers for pumping water and small-scale electricity generation in rural areas and later in power generation using steam turbines. Although installed capacity of biopower generation has been growing at an annual average rate of about 16% since December 2005, the sector appears to be facing uncertain future because of rising cost and lack of reliable supplies of wood. This paper presents a review of different aspects of wood energy in India and an assessment of wood energy potential in 2050 based on availability and productivity of different types of land for wood production; the potential of biopower capacity based on surplus wood after meeting demands for timber and fuelwood is estimated to be 180-260 GW. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

In the leisure industry, there is no age limitation, and it has been extended vertically into the younger generation. The younger generations' involvement in the leisure industry has been the issue that can not be ignored. Due to leisure affairs usually happen while working; it still has different opinions on which is the better leisure participation for the younger generation. The paper is based on this issue, and uses the technical and vocational college students in eastern Taiwan as subjects to do the research. Method of field investigation was used and total of 500 valid questionnaires were returned. Through the 12 sports items, the current younger generations' leisure participation can be analyzed. For the math model, this paper mainly used the GM (0,N) in the grey system theory. However, the amount of data analyzed in this paper was enormous, so the traditional analysis software generally can not solve the problem. Hence, the Matlab toolbox is our own research and development tool to support a large numerical calculation in this paper. Finally, the results show good agreement of the actual situation, and it is hoped to be applied to related areas.

A Delphi panel of aviation experts is used to anticipate probable and wildcard scenarios on the future of aviation in 2025. According to the experts' estimations, the passenger, business aviation, and air cargo segments will be faced with 27 probable high-impact developments. These include long-haul growth primarily linked to emerging countries, a number of substitution threats, liberalization and deregulation, increasing industry vulnerability, finiteness of fossil fuels, and emissions trading. The emergence of low-cost cargo carriers and air cargo substitution by sea transportation were identified as potential surprises. Several wildcard scenarios were identified such as natural catastrophes, era of virtual communication, and home-producing " fabbing" society. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

This study adopts the opposing theoretical views of legitimacy - institutional and strategic - in evaluating firm performance and top management commitment as antecedents to green procurement and green supplier development. Additionally, the impact of green procurement and green supplier development on supplier performance is analysed. Using a sample of western European companies, we develop a structural equation model to test our hypotheses. We find that the buying firm's market performance positively relates to the adoption of green procurement. While financial performance has no effect on green procurement, top management commitment is found to be an important driver of both green procurement and green supplier development. Moreover, the relationship between green procurement and supplier performance is fully mediated by green supplier development. The paper addresses a research gap concerning firm-level antecedents for green procurement and green supplier development showing that both practices may impact supplier performance. Furthermore, it is shown that legitimacy concerns drive basic green procurement, whereas top management is decisive for advanced practices, such as green supplier development. © 2013 Taylor & Francis.

Supply chain flexibility has become an important ingredient to remain competitive in today's increasingly complex business environment. Within this context, drawing from the knowledge-based view of the firm, we investigate the influence of internal and external knowledge transfer activities on supply chain flexibility. In addition, taking a contingency perspective, we hypothesize about the moderating effects of product and supply complexity on the relationships between knowledge transfer and supply chain flexibility. We test our hypotheses with data collected from procurement and supply chain professionals in Germany. Pursuant to our expectations, we find a positive and significant influence of internal and external knowledge transfer on supply chain flexibility. We further confirm a negative moderating effect of supply complexity on the relationship between internal knowledge transfer and supply chain flexibility, and a negative moderating effect of product complexity on the relationship between external knowledge transfer and supply chain flexibility. However, contrary to our expectations, we find significant positive effects for the remaining two moderations, being indicative of the unique dynamics emanating from complexity, able to yield both negative and positive moderation effects contingent on the situation. Overall, these findings provide important insight into the value of knowledge transfer activities for supply chain flexibility, and especially into when knowledge transfer is most effective, drawing attention to influential complexity contingencies. Theoretical and practical contributions are discussed. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.
