An experiment was conducted to overcome the challenges during melt spinning of thermoplastic polyurethane. The experimental set-up was composed of a melt extrusion unit along with a spinneret, a height adjustable water quench, 3 pairs of godets, a relaxation channel and the take up. The distance between spinneret and water bath plays a crucial role in the stability of the spinning process. In this experiment a multifilament spinneret is used with 30 nozzles a 0.4 mm diameter. The water in the water bath has room temperature and passes through a circulation pump to maintain an even temperature in the bath. The spun filament yarn was characterized for fineness and tensile strength. The average value fineness of multifilament yarn is found 412.99 dtex for sample T1 and 320.656 dtex for sample T2. The spun filament sticks with the godets and undesirable and irregular stretching takes place. This results in the high standard variation in yarn diameter.
