Determining the temperature of friction linings in automotive dry clutches is essential for monitoring wear and predicting the remaining opertional life span. Until now it was only possible to estimate that temperature based on secondary measurements. No method for a direct measurement existed. This paper presents a wireless sensor-system that allows for a direct online measurement of the friction lining temperature. This sensor-system is tested through measurements using a dry clutch on a transmission test bench. © Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag.
