The paper presents a practical engineering problem solved by numerical simulation with AMESIM language. An aluminum wire rolling mill has at the exit a coil wire roller, actuated by an electrohydraulic linear servo system. The speed of the aluminum wire, exiting from the final stage of the mill, has to be correlated both with the roller angular speed, and with the roller axial advancement. Many parameters have to be adjusted in real time: the wire reel speed, the wire diameter, and the number of layers already siting on the roller. Any mistake produced during the wiring process increases the production cost, because the wrong mass coils are melted again. The use of a well-tuned controller allows the eliminating of the different type of mistakes occurring in the process of wiring. The controller delivers the input of the electrohydraulic servo system which axially move the roller according to the other process parameters.

We introduce a new technique based on artificial neural networks which enable us to make accurate predictions for the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of large samples of galaxies, at wavelengths ranging from the far-ultraviolet (UV) to the submillimetre (sub-mm) and radio. The neural net is trained to reproduce the SEDs predicted by a hybrid code comprised of the galform semi-analytical model of galaxy formation, which predicts the full star formation and galaxy merger histories, and the grasil spectro-photometric code, which carries out a self-consistent calculation of the SED, including absorption and emission of radiation by dust. Using a small number of galaxy properties predicted by galform, the method reproduces the luminosities of galaxies in the majority of cases to within 10 per cent of those computed directly using grasil. The method performs best in the sub-mm and reasonably well in the mid-infrared (IR) and far-UV. The luminosity error introduced by the method has negligible impact on predicted statistical distributions, such as luminosity functions or colour distributions of galaxies. We use the neural net to predict the overlap between galaxies selected in the rest-frame UV and in the observer-frame sub-mm at z = 2. We find that around half of the galaxies with a 850 μm flux above 5 mJy should have optical magnitudes brighter than RAB < 25 mag. However, only 1 per cent of the galaxies selected in the rest-frame UV down to RAB < 25 mag should have 850 μm fluxes brighter than 5 mJy. Our technique will allow the generation of wide-angle mock catalogues of galaxies selected at rest-frame UV or mid- and far-IR wavelengths. © 2009 The Authors. Journal compilation © 2009 RAS.

The authors present an experimental stand dedicated to research laboratories for testing scale models of axial hydraulic turbine, and also the testing procedure suitable for this stand. The stand is one of the recent professional achievements of the two authors, being commissioned in 2015 at ICPE-CA Bucharest. It is characterized by high technical performance and reduced overall sizes. The aim of this material is to attract the attention of potential beneficiaries, educational and research units, who might be interested in procurement or development of such high performance stands. © 2015, Editura Cefin. In this article a numerical model, developed previously by the authors to study the sealing performance of hydraulic reciprocating seals, is extended in order to include the effect of seal roughness. The model is verified on a typical elastomeric "U-type" rod seal under steady-state conditions. The influence of the roughness geometrical distribution and wavelength on seal performance is analysed, and it is shown that seal roughness significantly influences the results compared with numerical predictions. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.

The rotary volumetric pumps with radial pistons used in hydraulics have been very little studied in Romania and when the issue was approached it was only theoretically. The paper presents the results of the experimental studies performed by the author on a positioning servo mechanism used for regulating the geometrical volume of the pumps with radial pistons. For developing the research, the author has designed both and realized the experimental model of the mechatronic positioning system and the test stand.

The paper presents the results following the theoretical research of one prehension mechanism regarding the dynamic behavior for one modern transfer systems, a manipulator or robot in cylindrical co-ordinates, which belongs to a molding technological module based on the hydraulic presses. Using the mathematical modeling and the computer simulation, it can identify the parameters with sensitive behavior and, finally, it can optimize the dynamic regimes according to the real requests of driving. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The electro-hydraulic actuation system was designed and realized by INOE 2000 - IHP for Regional Air Services - Tuzla Airport. It is used on the Cabin Emergency and Escape Trainer CEET B732 for the Sea Survival School. The closed loop control system controller, that implements the actuation system functionality, was designed as a software application using dedicated PLC software tools. Common PLCs are not usually used in this kind of applications; the authors work consisted on finding ways to use them on electro-hydraulic closed loop actuation system. Addressing emerging applications with general purpose PLC is the novelty of authors work and the experimental results confirm the rightness of this approach. © 2015 IEEE.

For an effective use of the energy potential of watercourses an important link is represented by the means of experimental testing of the equipment which is representative for hydropower plants – the hydraulic turbines. Developing these turbines begins with a rough design, based on differential equations of ideal fluid movement, and continues with successive stages of performance testing under laboratory conditions, on reduced-scale models. Based on geometric, kinematic and dynamic similarity, conclusions drawn from the functioning of the model will be also valid for the real equipment, using for this different similarity criteria. The aim of this paperwork is expressing opinions on the developing of a modern stand for experimental tests upon scale models for a type of kinetic turbine: the axial hydraulic turbines, which can be installed on the water stream, in locations that do not use dams or other facilities for water accumulation. The stand developed by the authors allows both study on water flow around hydrodynamic profiles and experimental determination of mechanical and energy characteristics, of mechanical torque and rotation speed variation at the shaft of the tested turbine model, depending on the load and flow rate. There are described the main technical performance of the stand and the main types of tests that can be conducted on it. Water speed adjustment on stand is achieved by varying the rotation speed of three centrifugal electric pumps. The automation system of the stand includes three frequency inverters, which power the electric pumps of the pumping group, flow directional control valve, fitted to the discharge pipe of the pumping group, water speed sensor, Pitot tube type, installed in the testing/viewing section, magnetic particle adjustable brake, which provides the load of the tested turbine, torque and speed transducer, which allows the measurement of torque and speed values in the tested turbine. Monitoring, control and data acquisition for the automation equipment are provided by a SCADA system, made up of a PLC, a personal computer (PC), an RS-485 serial bus between the PLC and the frequency sensors and inverters, an Ethernet bus between the PLC and PC, the database server, and also the software applications running on the PLC and PC. The application running on PC allows us to control the pumping group and the electrically controlled brake, to monitor and acquire data from the transducers installed along the water tunnel, and also to record them in a database, in order to further process them. © SGEM2015.

In the world there is different sistems for washing the photovoltaic panels installed in solar power plants [1]. It is known that dust deposits, or other kind, on the panels may decrease energy production even up to 50%. Are known different dedicated machines or robots for washing of the PV panels. The authors of the paper presents the realization of a type of original installation which may be mounted in a 4x4 pickup truck, together with a water reservoir. The installation consists of a frame on which are mounted: oil tank with electro hydraulic equipments (valves), hydraulic pump driven with combustion engine, water reservoir, an arm with washing brush and automation cabinet. To automate the installation, the software is implemented as a state machine using UML standard language. The automation module was realized with a microcontroller, which receives signals from various sensors and which send electric commands to the solenoids of hydraulic valves, through high side switch ICs. The operator has at his disposal a remote control that communicates with automation module via serial standard RS232. For a washing process with good productivity, were implemented a series of automatic sequences. One of the sequences is rotating column in working position, to the left or the right, followed by unfolding the brush. Afterwards the operator approaches brush to the appropriate distance from the PV panel, then washing starts automatically. During washing the distance between brush and the PV panel is maintained constant automatically. When one row is completed washing stops and the operator, by pressing a button, starts the sequence of bringing the brush in the position where the pickup truck can move to the next row of panels. This sequence folds the brush, then the column rotates to bring the brush along the car. The article also presents the main tests of functionality of the machine, which demonstrates its utility. This type of mobile installation, which can be mounted on a 4x4 pickup truck, is an affordable solution for entrepreneurs who want to provide services for washing solar panels or for owners of solar plants with photovoltaic panels. © SGEM2015.
