The original design of the air heaters of 2×600 MW boiler units in Jinglong Power Plant was horizontal and non-adjustable and the water drainage system adopted the traditional arrangement mode in operation: "water drain pump→deaerator", which often caused a series of problems such as the water drained from the air heaters was not smooth and free in flow and the water drain pumps malfunctioned during operation, needing a great deal of maintenance expense in each year. Through a modification of the air heaters and steam traps, rearrangement of the water drainage system, optimization of its operation logic, the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the air heater and water drainage system were enhanced, thus saving a cost of RMB 700000 yuan in each year. Due to a big water content and low heating value of lignite, its mixing-dilution combustion in a large amount may emerge an insufficient drying capacity of the coal mill and a series of problems and seriously influence the safe operation of the pulverized coal milling system. Through a series of modification such as rotation direction change, air chamber enlargement, soft seal installation and capacity enlargement of the nozzle ring of the coal mill, the air temperature at the inlet of the coal mill was further enhanced, the drying and milling capacity of the coal mill was conspicuously increased and the resistance of the blower was lowered. At the same time of meeting the requirements for mixing-dilution burning with lignite at a large proportion, the power consumption rate of the blower and coal mill can be reduced and the risk of the primary air blower starting to stall can be reduced, thus bringing huge economic benefits to the enterprise and providing certain reference for thermal power plants mixing-dilution burning with lignite. Aiming at the problem that the co-combustion of a large amount of lignite in thermal power plants will cause inadequate drying capacity of coal mill and subsequently affect the safe operation of coal pulverizing system, a retrofit was implemented by changing the rotating direction of air preheater, increasing the angle of primary air chamber, mounting flexible seal to the air heater, and making capacity expansion to the mill nozzle, etc. Results show that after retrofit, the temperature of inlet hot primary air is further increased, the drying and milling capacity of coal mill are significantly raised, and the fan resistance is reduced; on the basis of meeting the requirement of co-firing a large-proportion of lignite, the fan power consumption is reduced, the stalling risk of primary air fan is lowered, which will bring enormous economic benefits to the enterprise.
