The measure on instantaneous velocity field in near wake of horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) were carried out using cross correlation particle image velocimetry (PIV) and axis-coder positioning period sampling system at wind tunnel opening. Near wake spectral characteristics were obtained by spectral analysis on PIV testing data at six tip speed ratios. The research result serves as a reference for model updating and numerical simulation of the wind turbine wake. In near wake, the blade passage frequency and its harmonics are the main elements in the axial velocity spectrum, the radial velocity spectrum and the turbulent kinetic energy spectrum. The axial velocity has similar spectral characteristics with the turbulent kinetic energy and has more influence on wake fluctuation than the radial velocity. At rated tip speed ratio, the rotor draws the most energy from wind and has top power coefficient, momentum difference of air pasting the rotor is maximum, so there is the highest fluctuation of the turbulent kinetic energy behind the rotor, at the same time, there is the largest proportion of noise signal in the spectrogram. ©2010 IEEE.

The horizontal axis wind turbine with the structure appropriate tip vane can change the pressure distribution of blade surface, improve power output, adjust the rotor dynamic frequency curve, and improve the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor. This paper elaborates the design of the ogee tip vane. The tip vane with preferable power augmentation effect was found by L 25 experiment. The PIV measure of near wake dynamic flow of the rotating wind turbine with ogee tip vane and without tip vane was carried out using axis-coder phase-locked periodic sampling technology at wind tunnel opening. The experimental results show that the tip vane can diffuse and weaken the tip vortex, therefore, can improve aerodynamic characteristics and power coefficient of rotor.

In wind tunnel opening, the instantaneous flow field in 1/3 circle around the rotor were measured by PIV under different tip speed ratio. As the tip speed ratio increases, the radial displacement of tip vortex increases, the radius of tip vortex inducible region increases, the radius of overall wake increases. At the same time, the axial velocity defect increases, and the axial displacement of tip vortex decreases. There was a stronger velocity gradient region around the rotor because of the interaction between tip vortex induce and rotor rotation, the vibration inspirited by inducible flow makes the tip vortex shedding from the blade fluctuating in wake, and the stronger fluctuations far away the rotor. By the locality average, the rule was found that the intersections connection of tip vortex trajectory and azimuth planes approximately is line, and its slope increase with the tip speed ratio.

The measure of velocity field in near wake of horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) was carried out using cross correlation particle image velocimetry (PIV) and axis-coder positioning period sampling system at wind tunnel opening. Near wake structure characteristics were obtained by analyzing velocity and vorticity at six tip speed ratios. Obviously, there were tip vortexes with forceful morphological character spreading to the downstream. Along the radial direction, near wake consists of central wake region, tip vortex inducing region and external mainstream region. In tip vortex inducing region, there were apparent profit areas and deficit areas of velocity, the profit area and the deficit area were symmetric with respect to the center of tip vortex core. In research district, tip vortex's axial displacement was inversely proportional to tip speed rate, and its radial displacement was proportional to tip speed rate, this makes the tip vortex inducing region increase in radial area and decrease in axial area with the increase of tip speed rate.

In wind tunnel opening, the noise in four test lines was measured by BSWA VS302USB Noise and Vibration Analysis System under different tip speed ratio. The main component of blade tip acoustic radiation is the rotated harmonic sound; it decayed rapidly in the process of spreading to the downstream. In the each test line, with the measuring points moving to the downstream, the acoustic radiation of the wind rotor decayed rapidly, after a certain distances, it is lower than the background noise. The higher is the tip speed ratio, the farther is the distance which is the acoustic radiation decayed to the background sound. There is a high-pressure pulse region in the tip rear, which formed by rotating of the wind rotor. With the increasing of the tip speed ratio, the region increased. With the expanding to the downstream, the influent ranges expanded. In the process of the pressure fluctuation of tip region transmitting to the downstream, it declined rapidly at first, after a certain distance, it is lower than the pressure fluctuation of the wind tunnel outflow, and in the farther downstream, higher than it.
