This paper will show how the newest technology in hydroxy functional acrylic resins significantly improves the state-of-the-art of waterborne two-component (WB2K) polyurethane coatings for automotive, industrial, protective and wood coating systems. New resin technology enables improvements in maximum blister-free film thickness, increased coating robustness resulting in higher yields and application across higher relative humidity and temperature ranges, as well as reduced formulation costs via the use of 100% hydrophobic isocyanates in the B component of the coating formulation. Data from the analysis of coatings based on this new resin development formulated at VOC < 100g/l will be quantitatively compared to commercially available control systems.
