The double hexapod robot consists in two staged hexapod platforms - Stewart Gough platforms - combining in a certain measure the advantages of the robots with parallel kinematics and of the serial robots: high accuracy, high stiffness, fast response and small dimensions, having an extended operating space. Different modelling and construction aspects were described in few previous articles. Some examples of trajectories generated with this positioning system are now presented to illustrate its mobility, as well as the workspaces for one and two hexapods in order to make possible a visual comparison between the two volumes. © (2010) Trans Tech Publications.

The assessment of the silting process which affects the useful volume of the reservoirs is made with the aid of bathymetric maps, but they need to be periodically updated. Usual, a sonar carried by a ship transmits data that are processed, obtaining thus information related to water depths modifications. Fore more precise measurements, SEDCONTROL system performs complex determinations in fixed representative points and transmits real-time the measured values with a programmable sampling rate.

The silting process affects the useful volume of the reservoirs, with important economic implications. The bathymetric maps of dam lakes are drawn measuring the water depth in x-y coordinates and show the dynamics of the silting process if they are updated periodically, but the accuracy of these determinations is related to the precision of the x-y coordinates. For a more accurate assessment of the deposition process, the SEDCONTROL project proposes a measurement system based on acoustic principle attached to one or a few representative points which transmit real-time the measured values.
