A scheme of the marine oil terminal protection from water hammer which includes only the coastal units and does not contain elements on jetty is considered. The advantage of this scheme is that the bulky containers are placed on the shore, and not on the quay, which is usually already characterized by lack of space. The protection system is based on the high-performance valves HIPPS. In the case of water hammer caused by unauthorized closing ship valves a safety is provided by a fast closing valve located on the shore. As a result, a protective wave of discharging is generated In the offshore part of the hydraulic system of the terminal and prevents pressure build up to dangerous levels. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed scheme are proved. Source
