Iiyama is a city located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It markets itself as "Japan's Hometown". The city was founded on August 1, 1954.As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 23,969 and a population density of 118 persons per km². The total area is 202.32 km².The Chikuma River runs through the centre of the area and becomes known as the Shinano River when it passes into Niigata Prefecture. The TV and electronics manufacturer Iiyama was founded in the city in 1972, although, after a series of mergers, the company is no longer headquartered there. The target of this study is to develop the high efficiency air conditioning system using water source heat pump units. The water source makeup air unit applied the desiccant rotor whose adsorption/desorption processes can work at low-temperature was developed for one kind of units on the high efficiency air conditioning system. This makeup air unit consisted of the refrigerant cycle, the water heat source line, and the desiccant rotor. A prototype makeup air unit was produced and its performance was tested. As results, the capacity was 4.84kW and COP was 4.78 under the cooling/dehumidifying operation at the heat sink water of 32°C, the inside air of 27°CDB/19°CWB and the outside air of 33°CDB/28°CWB. The capacity was 6.79kW and COP was 5.62 under the heating/humidifying operation at the heat source water of 25°C, the inside air of 22°CDB/15°CWB and the outside air of 0°CDB/-3°CWB.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate in vitro and in vivo gene delivery efficiency of polyamidoamine (PAMAM) starburst dendrimer (generation 2, G2) conjugates with α-cyclodextrin (α-CDE (G2)) bearing lactose (Lac-α-CDE) with various degrees of substitution of the lactose moiety (DSL) as a novel hepatocyte-selective carrier in hepatocytes. Lac-α-CDE (DSL 2.6) was found to have much higher gene transfer activity than dendrimer, α-CDE, Lac-α-CDE (DSL 1.2, 4.6, 6.2 and 10.2) and lactosylated dendrimer (Lac-dendrimer, DSL 2.4) in HepG2 cells, which are dependent on the expression of cell-surface asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGP-R), reflecting the cellular association of the plasmid DNA (pDNA) complexes. The physicochemical properties of pDNA complex with Lac-α-CDE (DSL 2.6) were almost comparable to that with α-CDE. Lac-α-CDE (DSL 2.6) provided negligible cytotoxicity up to a charge ratio of 150 in HepG2 cells. Lac-α-CDE (DSL 2.6) provided gene transfer activity higher than jetPEITM-Hepatocyte to hepatocytes with much less changes of blood chemistry values 12h after intravenous administration in mice. These results suggest the potential use of Lac-α-CDE (DSL 2.6) as a non-viral vector for gene delivery toward hepatocytes. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.

During the ECM process, the metal workpiece is dissolved and turns into sludge which contaminates the electrolyte. To realize precise ECM with high cost-effectiveness, an electrolyte treatment system which can realize reuse of the electrolyte and maintain the electrolyte quality constant is significantly important and essential. Especially, in the ECM of alloys containing a certain level of chromium, it is very likely chromium dissolves to the toxic carcinogen Cr(VI). Therefore, an electrolyte filtration system is required for removing not only the sludge but also residual toxic ions in the electrolyte for health and environment conservation reasons. In this study, activated carbon and scrap iron, which are low cost and easily available materials, were newly utilized to reduce and remove toxic Cr(VI) ions. Experiments clarified that use of activated carbon has no influence on the machining ability of NaNO3 aqueous solution serving as the electrolyte. By adjusting the pH of the electrolyte to acidic, activated carbon can remove Cr(VI) from the NaNO3 aqueous solution electrolyte to a concentration of less than 0.1mg/L. On the other hand, scrap iron generated from metal cutting processes can be used to reduce Cr(VI) to non-toxic Cr(III). By mixing HNO3 into the electrolyte solution, the reduction efficiency of scrap iron on Cr(VI) improves significantly. © 2017 Elsevier Inc.

Microsporogenesis in rice (Oryza sativa) plants is susceptible to moderate low temperature (LT; approximately 19°C) that disrupts pollen development and causes severe reductions in grain yields. Although considerable research has been invested in the study of cool-temperature injury, a full understanding of the molecular mechanism has not been achieved. Here, we show that endogenous levels of the bioactive gibberellins (GAs) GA4 and GA7, and expression levels of the GA biosynthesis genes GA20ox3 and GA3ox1, decrease in the developing anthers by exposure to LT. By contrast, the levels of precursor GA12 were higher in response to LT. In addition, the expression of the dehydration-responsive element-binding protein DREB2B and SLENDER RICE1 (SLR1)/DELLA was up-regulated in response to LT. Mutants involved in GA biosynthetic and response pathways were hypersensitive to LT stress, including the semidwarf mutants sd1 and d35, the gain-of-function mutant slr1-d, and gibberellin insensitive dwarf1. The reduction in the number of sporogenous cells and the abnormal enlargement of tapetal cells occurred most severely in the GA-insensitive mutant. Application of exogenous GA significantly reversed the male sterility caused by LT, and simultaneous application of exogenous GA with sucrose substantially improved the extent of normal pollen development. Modern rice varieties carrying the sd1 mutation are widely cultivated, and the sd1 mutation is considered one of the greatest achievements of the Green Revolution. The protective strategy achieved by our work may help sustain steady yields of rice under global climate change. © 2014 American Society of Plant Biologists. All rights reserved.

Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumors (PHATs) are rare non-metastasizing tumors of uncertain lineage. The current study presents a case of PHAT arising in the thigh of a 68-year-old female and examines the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intramuscular mass located in the adductor longus. The tumor was surrounded by lipomatous tumor. Wide resectioning was performed for the internal tumor, whereas intralesional resectioning was performed for the external tumor. Histopathologically, the internal lesion was diagnosed as a PHAT and the external lesion was diagnosed as an hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous lesion (HFLL). No recurrence or metastases were identified during the 6-year follow-up period. As the adipose tissue surrounding the PHAT resembled a HFLL, therefore, the association between early PHAT and HFLL is discussed. Although PHATs may represent low-grade sarcomas, HFLLs may be benign tumors.

New shield-type current-probe was compared to a conventional type current-probe by measuring frequency response and TLP pulse. The shield type current-probe, which provided low distortion and 6GHz BW, approximated the input waveform. The contact discharge was investigated using 4pF to 20pF capacitances. The current waveforms discharging from the 4pF reached the peak value at the leading edge and decayed rapidly. The current waveforms discharging from the 20pF rose up slowly and reached the peak value after the leading edge. The peak current discharging from the 4pF or 20pF increased almost proportionally from 40mA at 10V to over 300mA at 70V. At the 4pF capacitance the rise time tended to increase from 50ps to 150ps as the voltage decreased from 70V to 10V. The shield-type current-probe was useful for measuring the contact discharge. © 2014 IEEE.
