Iiyama is a city located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It markets itself as "Japan's Hometown". The city was founded on August 1, 1954.As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 23,969 and a population density of 118 persons per km². The total area is 202.32 km².The Chikuma River runs through the centre of the area and becomes known as the Shinano River when it passes into Niigata Prefecture. The TV and electronics manufacturer Iiyama was founded in the city in 1972, although, after a series of mergers, the company is no longer headquartered there. Angular dependence of speckle contrast of speckle pattern projected out of a multi-mode fiber connected to a high-power blue laser module is investigated. The laser module has nine high-power InGaN/GaN blue laser diodes arranged in a three-by-three array. Each of the arrayed laser diodes have slightly different incident angle to the fiber. We have successfully extracted the fine screen speckle pattern from the projected pattern mixed up with the coarse fiber speckle pattern by processing the measured data. It is found that the speckle contrast of the both screen and fiber speckles are larger around the center area where the guided-light component closest to the paraxial direction is projected. This is because the output of the center laser in the array is likely to couple into the paraxial mode more than the rest. Speckle contrast behaviors when applying the speckle reduction methods, fiber vibration, diffuser, and spinning diffuser are also investigated. © 2015, The Optical Society of Japan. Source

New shield-type current-probe was compared to a conventional type current-probe by measuring frequency response and TLP pulse. The shield type current-probe, which provided low distortion and 6GHz BW, approximated the input waveform. The contact discharge was investigated using 4pF to 20pF capacitances. The current waveforms discharging from the 4pF reached the peak value at the leading edge and decayed rapidly. The current waveforms discharging from the 20pF rose up slowly and reached the peak value after the leading edge. The peak current discharging from the 4pF or 20pF increased almost proportionally from 40mA at 10V to over 300mA at 70V. At the 4pF capacitance the rise time tended to increase from 50ps to 150ps as the voltage decreased from 70V to 10V. Microsporogenesis in rice (Oryza sativa) plants is susceptible to moderate low temperature (LT; approximately 19°C) that disrupts pollen development and causes severe reductions in grain yields. Although considerable research has been invested in the study of cool-temperature injury, a full understanding of the molecular mechanism has not been achieved. Here, we show that endogenous levels of the bioactive gibberellins (GAs) GA4 and GA7, and expression levels of the GA biosynthesis genes GA20ox3 and GA3ox1, decrease in the developing anthers by exposure to LT. By contrast, the levels of precursor GA12 were higher in response to LT. In addition, the expression of the dehydration-responsive element-binding protein DREB2B and SLENDER RICE1 (SLR1)/DELLA was up-regulated in response to LT. Mutants involved in GA biosynthetic and response pathways were hypersensitive to LT stress, including the semidwarf mutants sd1 and d35, the gain-of-function mutant slr1-d, and gibberellin insensitive dwarf1. The reduction in the number of sporogenous cells and the abnormal enlargement of tapetal cells occurred most severely in the GA-insensitive mutant. Application of exogenous GA significantly reversed the male sterility caused by LT, and simultaneous application of exogenous GA with sucrose substantially improved the extent of normal pollen development. Modern rice varieties carrying the sd1 mutation are widely cultivated, and the sd1 mutation is considered one of the greatest achievements of the Green Revolution.
