Health and safety in welding fabrication is a very complex matter which can be approached through different disciplines; on October the 30th 2012, a seminar was held in the IIS Branch in Legnano (MI), where speakers with different cultural backgrounds (medicine, engineering, legislative and regulatory, fabrication) presented their viewpoints. The discussion was leaded by the theme of sustainability, intended as conciliation between safeguard of health, safety and environment in the respect of productivity; this has been assumed as the most significant aspect in the era of globalisation. In this paper a picture of the matter is presented (including resumes of the speeches) with the goal of evaluating rules and criteria supporting manufacturers in making health and safety in welding an opportunity for adding profit rather than a cost.
