The trend of the morphology changes of cardiac depolarization and repolarization during exercise ECG test were examined in a group of 106 individuals. The ratio between the second and the first eigenvalues of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was considered. The increasing and decreasing trends of PCA-QRS and PCA-T were classified as homogeneous and the rest as heterogeneous and their relationship with clinical data were studied. © 2013 CCAL. Source

Before the skin treatment, different Chitin Nanofibril-Hyaluronan (CN-HA) block copolymeric nanoparticles, entrapping known whitening agents, were controlled in vitro to verify their activity on the melanogenetic process. It was controlled in vitro their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity together with the possibility to interfere on melanin synthesis and melanosome transfer. From the obtained results it has been shown that the combined activity of different whitening agents entrapped into natural nanoparticles as carrier, gives as result an interesting depigmenting effectiveness without any side effect.A new study is in progress to confirm these data.This preliminary study reports the whitening efficacy obtained in vivo by the contemporary topical use of 3 cosmetic emulsions enriched with the designed nanoparticles and applied for a period of 6 months on the skin of 40 voluntary subjects, female and male, affected by hyperpigmentation in different skin areas. © - Centre Studi Emigrazione - Roma 2014. Repeated-load triaxial tests were conducted to examine mixing of coarse aggregate placed over a layer of silt with and without geotextile separators. A range of silt densities was tested without the separators to examine the mixing conditions. Medium density (i.e., close to optimum dry density), saturated and unsaturated silt specimens were tested with and without geotextile separators to examine the separator function. Deformation gauges mounted directly on the specimens provided strains within each layer and across the interface between the two layers. Mixing occurred due either to downward movement of the aggregate or a combination of downward movement of the aggregate and upward movement of fines. Geotextile separators prevented mixing in saturated, medium-density silt. When the silt was not saturated prior to testing, mixing did not occur and the geotextile separator was not required. © 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers. Source

Photoelectrochemically nanostructured GaN epilayers were found to exhibit good sensitivity towards CO in the temperature range from 180 to 280°C. We show that subjection of nanostructured GaN samples to 166 MeV Xe+23 ion irradiation causes considerable reduction of the gas sensitivity, while post-irradiation rapid thermal annealing results in sensitivity restoration, the effect being dependent upon the dose of irradiation and annealing temperature. A 50% restoration of the relative sensitivity is demonstrated after rapid thermal annealing for 1 min at 800°C in samples irradiated by Xe+23 ions at a dose of 1012 cm-2. © Allerton Press, Inc., 2010. The present report tries to assess the possibility of performing capture of proteomes via combinatorial peptide ligand libraries (CPLL) in a two-dimensional (2D) mode, i.e. via orthogonal complementarity in the capture phase. To that aim, serum proteins are captured at physiological pH either at low ionic strength (25. mM NaCl) or at high concentrations of lyotropic salts of the Hofmeister series (1. M ammonium sulphate) favouring hydrophobic interaction. Indeed such 2D mechanisms seems to be operative, since 52% of the captured proteins are common to the two capture modes, 20% are specific only of the "ionic" interaction mode and 28% are found only in the "hydrophobically" driven interaction. As an additional bonus, losses of protein species from the initial sample, one of the major drawbacks of CPLLs, are diminished to about 5% and are found only in the ionic capture, whereas the hydrophobically engendered capture is loss-free. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.
