Serving two masters, IPC has to walk a fine line. Maybe the organization has to delineate itself a bit more, by region, so that it can better support its members in different parts of the world.

The ultimate goal of social media is to get a message to a target audience in the most efficient way possible. Social media marketing isn't limited to texting or status updates; it's also about people communicating in person. Now, everyone has immediate access to tools that will broadcast their message to anyone who will listen or read. The broader the target market, the more effective social media becomes. If anyone wants direct connection to the audience or customer, he should invite them to subscribe to his blog, and once they do, have direct chat with them.

Summary: It really never made sense to send most of our manufacturing to China. For some products, China was a no-brainer, but for many others it wasn't the lowest-cost producer. Now, more and more companies are figuring that out.

Experts state that China is facing significant challenges with low growth and exports, challenges faced by the housing industry, international pressure on currency exchange rates, and rising wages and costs, along with environmental pressures. Chinese competitors have crushed them with artificially low-priced products. The Chinese government's artificial economic environment has been so enticing that investment flooded into the forcing companies to shift to other locations within the country to survive. A large number of small businesses have suffered significant losses due to faulty government policies. China's rapid ascension to become the second largest economy has been endangered due to these circumstances. Experts also express concerns that the consequences of a Chinese collapse will be severe for the United States and for the rest of the world.

Technica USA opened up its West Coast Demo & Training Center at their San Jose, California, in 2013 July, in cooperation with ASM-Siplace, along with contributions from its other key partners Heraeus and Rehm. The Tech Day was the first of planned annual events for Technica. The first part of the seminar was held at the CAS Event Center in San Jose, where Helmut Ottl, head of product management and deputy head R&D for Rehm, and Joerg Trodler, process engineer of interconnect technologies and materials at Heraeus, provided detailed technical information on the subjects of vapor phase soldering and the materials and processes that influence solder joint void formation. Sample boards were assembled for a live demonstration of void free soldering. Customers were able to observe the entire process and equipment that was employed for this demonstration. Based on the positive response received from the attendees and the participants, Technica is looking forward to organizing the next technical event.

IPC Electronic System Technologies Conference (ESTC) was held in Las Vegas, US, in May 2007. IPC ESTC was an exciting new event for the entire electronics industry, from foundry and components to board assemblies and complete systems. It provided a significant opportunity to gather information about new developments in the discussion of the technologies products and services that would determine the future of the entire electronics industry. Another meeting was held along with the conference which was led by Denny Fritz. He and a group of professionals, including Dieter Bergman, Gene Weiner, Dan Feinberg, Krista Crotty, Marc Carter, Phil Marcoux, and Matt Holzmann, continued work on a new organization called Coalition for Advancement of Electronic Systems Technology (CAMEST). The effort was designed to build a technology bridge between industry groups, such as IPC, iNEMI, and SEMI, among others.

Ray Rasmussen reflects on the events that took place worldwide. China's Fastprint picked up eXception's PCB business; SMG and Global Circuits merged operations; Yash Sutariya's management team purchased Alpha Circuit Corp; Zutron acquired Teknoflex; and All Flex started off the year by acquiring Tri-C Design. Market news is getting the most reader interest from the websites. Anything with market information seems to be of great importance these days. Leading indicators from The Conference Board captured the most attention. Those indicators have been climbing for most of 2013, which is a good thing, just not fast enough. All economists believe economic growth is being hindered by partisan politics in the US Congress. Flextronics made a few acquisitions picking up RIWISA to strengthen its position in medical. They also picked up a couple of factories from Motorola Mobility (Google), one in Brazil and the other in China. Sparton bought Creonix to strengthen its mil/aero offerings and also picked up Aydin Displays. They bought Onyx at the end of 2012.

Ray Rasmussen states that OEMs manufacturing PCs are emphasizing on gathering more information while procuring ICs for their specific uses and applications. OEMs manufacturing PCs are emphasizing on gathering such information as they feel that consumers and businesses will upgrade their PCs when they learn how to use Windows 8. Ray Rasmussen also informs that other sectors in the US are growing at stable pace, driving better economic growth and development in the country along with improving the prospects of the PC and related markets. It is expected that the domestic manufacturing sector will continue to record moderate growth in the future despite facing challenges and improve the prospects of the overall market.

John Dulchinos, Jabil Circuit's vice president of global automation, talks about the electronics manufacturing landscape, the latest trends and developments, the EMS industry's need for manufacturing automation, and how the U.S. may become successful in its reshoring activities. According to him, with miniaturization, battery technology getting better, with the low power electronics, wireless communications, all of these things are driving the opportunity to really go down into a new generation of devices. In terms of the circuit board assembly itself, he thinks his company has done a great job as an industry over the past couple of decades to really build out a standardized set of tools, peripherals, meters and design rules, and toolsets that allow us to bring a new circuit board up in a very short amount of time, with a very high level of quality, and high degree of predictability. He thinks his company is going to see more and more integration of electronics into devices, and processes that allow us to integrate those devices together without the classicalprinted circuit board.

Brian Morrison, engineering manager at SMTC Corporation, notes that a number of manufacturers are still not fully complying with the green regulations primarily due to issues with system management, data integrity, and declaration management.
