The leaves of regenerated Chieh-qua (Benincasa hispida Cogn. var. chieh-qua How.) plants from the fusaric acid (FA) resistance and other varieties with different resistance to fusarium wilt were examined to analyze the activity of peroxidase (POD), polyphenoloxidase (PPO), and the content of soluble protein when infected with Fusarium oxysporum. The activity of POD and PPO was greater in F. oxysporum treated plants compared to control. The content of soluble protein in three varieties was lower than that of the control, and significant difference was observed. It suggested that resistant mechanism to fusarium wilt in resistant clone selected in vitro were similar with that in resistant variety obtained by traditional method. Source

'Seedless Ice Cream' (454-S×HY1) is a new watermelon variety bred by Melon Institute of Hunan province. It is small and yellow pulp watermelon which has high resistance, moisture tolerance and creamy taste. The growth cycle is about 93 days. The development of fruit needs 33 days or so. It fruit easily. The weight of one fruit is about 4-5 kg. The yields are 3000-3500 kg/667 m2. The concentration of refractive sugar is about 12% in the center of fruit. It is suitable for planting in every watermelon cultivating regions in China. Source

A new high-quality and red skin western pumpkin hybrid 'Hongli No 2' was developed with two inbreds from the introduced pumpkin lines (HP-35 and JP-1) as female and male parent respectively. The results from cultivar comparison, multilocation trials and demonstration experiments showed that the hybrid set fruits easily, grew vigorously with strong resistance to various stresses especially the temperature extremes. The whole growth period of the hybrid is about 110 d with the fruit developmental duration at around 45 d. The average fruit weighed 2.7 kg, and the yield was approximately 45 t ha. The fruits are high-oblate shaped with red skin and orange flesh of 3.8 cm thick, the flesh is powder and sweet. The hybrid is now named 'Hongli No 2'. Source
