By shaking table tests of two 1:2 scaled prototype structures, the seismic performance of Chinese traditional wood building and light wood framed building were studied. The results show that under the horizontal earthquake action whose peak value is less than 0.5 g, the horizontal acceleration responses at the top of columns of Chinese traditional wood building can be less than the acceleration input. The dynamic magnification factor of acceleration ranges from 0.46 to 0.57. The corresponding displacements can be larger than the displacement input. When the peak value of the input acceleration is bigger than 0.4 g, the obvious slippage between the columns and base-stones, as well as the deflection of joints connecting beams and columns will appear. As the result, the energy of the earthquake can be dissipated and the excellent effect of shock absorption can be achieved. Furthermore, for the light wood framed building, when the peak value of the input acceleration is bigger than 0.4 g, the dynamic magnification factor of acceleration can be bigger than 1.0. And if the peak value of input acceleration is not more than 0.5 g, the light wood framed building can remain elastic.

Based on the investigation into rural civil residences in Hunan Province,this paper makes a statistical analysis of structure form, foundation form, main building materials, regional distrbution and building costs of civil residence, and conducts a comparison of the situation of typical rural civil residence at the Dongting Lake area foreand-after devastating freezing-hazard event, which indicates that rural residences in the province is of low costs, various structure forms, irregular qualities, and weak disaster-resistances.

In this paper, the seismic performance of typical rowlock wall building in Dongting Lake area was studied by field test and numerical simulations. The results show that the dynamic characteristics of numerical model are well agreeable with those of the actual structure, so the results of numerical simulations can reflect really the seismic performance of actual structure. The seismic performance of typical rowlock wall building in Dongting Lake area can satisfy with the demand of seismic fortification intensity VII (0. 10g) for frequent earthquake, furthermore the seismic performance of typical rowlock wall building with flexible floors and roof can basically meet requirement for seismic fortification intensity VII (0. 15g)for frequent earthquake. The seismic shear of the typical rowlock wall building with flexible floors and roof is 23. 1% bigger than that of building with semi - rigid floors and roof. Considering the brick constructional columns, the seismic shear of the typical rowlock wall building with semi-rigid floors and roof can be improved to 105%.

According to the relevant code standards and specifications for the septic tanks at home and aboard, the design and calculation methods of septic tank in USA, Australia, Ireland and China are compared. The results showed that the design volume in China is obviously less than that of the others, and the main reason lies in the difference in the aspects of the application environment and the management and maintenance of septic tank, and the delay update of codes and standards related to the septic tank design. Furthermore, the undersized volume will lead to the malfunction of septic tank.
