The automatic extraction of terrain from high-resolution satellite optical images is very difficult under cloudy conditions. Therefore, accurate cloud detection is necessary to fully use the cloud-free parts of images for terrain extraction. This paper addresses automated cloud detection by introducing an image matching based method under a stereo vision framework, and the optimization usage of non-cloudy areas in stereo matching and the generation of digital surface models (DSMs). Given that clouds are often separated from the terrain surface, cloudy areas are extracted by integrating dense matching DSM, worldwide digital elevation model (DEM) (i.e., shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM)) and gray information from the images. This process consists of the following steps: an image based DSM is firstly generated through a multiple primitive multi-image matcher. Once it is aligned with the reference DEM based on common features, places with significant height differences between the DSM and the DEM will suggest the potential cloud covers. Detecting cloud at these places in the images then enables precise cloud delineation. In the final step, elevations of the reference DEM within the cloud covers are assigned to the corresponding region of the DSM to generate a cloud-free DEM. The proposed approach is evaluated with the panchromatic images of the Tianhui satellite and has been successfully used in its daily operation. The cloud detection accuracy for images without snow is as high as 95%. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly improve the usage of the cloudy panchromatic satellite images for terrain extraction. © 2016 International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Inc. In this paper, taking the procedure of the Hubei Rural Land ownership 1:2 000 map generating as an example, we give specific details on aero triangulation without control points generating procedure using ADS80 data, discuss about key process. The results are evaluated from the accuracy and efficiency of aero triangulation. And several references are provided for future production in large scale DOM and mapping.

Taking the procedure of Hubei Rural Land ownership 1:2 000 map generating as an example, this paper introduces specific details on aero triangulation generating procedure in mountainous region by POS and laying-point method of photograph control survey, discusses the evaluation from the accuracy and efficiency of aero triangulation. And the results confirms that the accuracy meets the requirement of large sale mapping in mountainous region when using laying-point method 20-30 baseline with POS.

A rapidly extraction method of the digital surface model (DSM) based on GPGPU technology is introduced. Using LiDAR and photogrammetry, this paper discusses the different characteristics about extracting the digital surface model. It proves that the extraction method of digital surface model based on CUDA architecture is effective and feasible by making a comparison of using CPU and GPU technology to obtain DSM of a large mountain block.

In this paper, an iterative filtering method based on DEM classification is proposed for DEM generating. Taking the terrain distribution into account, the method has been applied in the Hubei rural land ownership 1:2 000 map generating. It is proved to provide an efficient solution for the orthophoto calibration with less manual editing and high accuracy.

In this paper, in northwest Hubei, for example, combining with full-field test data, the accuracy of the results is summarized and analyzed by two different comparative study of the layout scheme of the control points, clarifying the ZY-3 surveying satellite images for the mountains and alpinewords, to meet the 1:10 000 aerial mapping accuracy specification requirements, providing a reference for future 1:10 000 DLG production and updating.

The WGS84 datum is the coordinate system of Leica ADS80 Airborne Digital Sensor, the corresponding post-processing software is also developed on this basis. The engineering applications will need to convert WGS84 datum to the user-defined coordinate system. In the paper, the relations of ADS80 coordinate system and the user-defined coordinate system are analyzed and the transformation formula is deduced. On the basis of analysis of ADS80 data formats, the paper completes ADS80 corresponding parameter to the user-defined coordinated system.
