Ferrite coated apatite magnetic nano-material was synthesized by a co-precipitation method and applied in removal of Eu(III) ions from aqueous solutions. The sample was firstly characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyses, deferential thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, surface area by nitrogen adsorption and scanning electron microscopy. The results of physicochemical properties indicated that the synthesized magnetic nano-adsorbent had a crystalline structure and possessed a surface area amounted to 85.11 m2 g-1. Further, it was found to have high thermal resistance up to 600 C and mean particle size of about 63 nm. The kinetic of Eu(III) sorption indicated that equilibrium state was attained within 12 h with using 5 mg as an appropriate nano-adsorbent weight. The sorption process was pH and ionic strength dependent. The maximum adsorbed amount of Eu(III) was attained at pH 2.5 with value reached to 157.14 mg g-1. Desorption of Eu(III) from loaded samples was studied using various eluents and maximum recovery was obtained using FeCl3 solution. © 2012 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

Polyacrylamide grafted activated carbon (PAAm-Ac) was prepared from chemically activated carbon of rice husk and rice straw and polyacrylamide. The prepared composite adsorbent was used for removal of iron from wet-phosphoric acid solution. Different parameters that could affect the adsorption reaction were investigated such as pH, contact time, metal ion concentration, adsorbent dose and anion concentration. The adsorption isotherms were studied to evaluate the maximum sorption capacity of adsorbent. The experimental results were found to fit with Langmuir isotherm model with maximum sorption capacity 6.15 mg/g. Different kinetic models were applied upon the experimental data, and it was found to fit well with pseudo second order kinetic model with adsorption capacity of 5.29 mg/g, suggesting a chemisorptions mechanism. The prepared polymeric composite adsorbent was applied for removal of iron from wet process phosphoric acid solution through batch and column experiments. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Magnetic particles were locally prepared by co-precipitation of Fe 2+ and Fe3+ in an ammonia solution. The prepared microsphere were grafted with polyacrylamide acrylic acid by using gamma irradiation polymerization in presence of MBA as a cross linker. AFP antibody was immobilized on these beads and used as a solid phase in radioimmunoassay technique. The immunoreactivity of the developed assay was found to be influenced by different factors such as solid phase volume, incubation time, incubation temperature and storage period. A comparative study was performed between the developed assay system and others two ones. The maximum binding percent attained the value of 19.5% while the sensitivity was observed to be 1.3 IU/mL. The developed assay displayed acceptable precision estimated by repeated analysis of the quality control samples and the clinical samples analyzed by this assay showed a good correlation with that commercial kit (r = 0.998). © 2011 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

Equilibrium and kinetics of exchange of 60Co and 152+154Eu radionuclides on hydrous titanium oxide incorporated in polyacrylonitrile, TiO-OH-PAN, were studied. The capacities of TiO-OH-PAN for 60Co and 152+154Eu were found to be 2.35 and 2.69 meq/g respectively. Freundlich and Langmiur isotherms were investigated. The validity of the Langmuir isotherm over the specified concentration range indicates monolayer coverage of the surface of TiO-OH-PAN by cobalt and europium. Sorption data was treated with the Dubinin-Radushkevich equation. The results indicated that hydrous titanium oxide incorporated in polyacrylonitrile can be considered as a promising material for removal of cobalt and europium ions from aqueous solution. © 2016 Taylor & Francis.

Nitrofurantoin (NF) was labeled with iodine-125 via electrophilic substitution reaction. Some factors affecting the radiochemical yield of 125I-NF, such as NF concentration, chloramine-T (CAT) concentration, pH of the reaction mixture, reaction time, temperature, and reaction medium, were studied. The maximum yield of 125I-NF (90%) was obtained by using 3.7 MBq of Na125I, 1 mM CAT, 1 mM NF in DMF, at pH 2 and 60 °C within 5 min. The specific activity of 125I-NF reaches 33.3 MBq/0.2 mmol, and the 125I-NF was completely separated and purified by means of high pressure liquid chromatography. The biological distribution in normal mice indicates the suitability of radioiodinated NF for urinary tract imaging. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
