Objective: To identify the psychological needs and feelings of women who are diagnosed with early spontaneous abortion in the gynecology emergency rooms. Materials and methods: This is a qualitative descriptive study with semi-structured interviews based on a field notebook. We performed 21 interviews and analyzed data classifying them in categories of needs and feelings most commonly found in the interviewed women. Results: After the diagnosis women experienced feelings of fear, anguish, guilt and doubt. Trivial situations for professionals, such as waiting in the emergency room or being examined on the gynecological chair, are emphasized by them. The quality of the received information and the empathy of the healthcare professionals were especially important to accept the treatment. Family support was fundamental in the evolution of the symptoms and in the desire of a new pregnancy. Suggestions to improve healthcare were received such as being accompanied by the husband or a family member while receiving medical assistance in the emergency room, or reducing waiting times. Women valuated positively receiving written information they could read at home. Conclusions: In addition to nursing care, the midwife can play a relevant role in the support, information and follow-up of this phenomenon, for whose understanding and care the individual perspective of every woman is very important. © 2017 Ediciones Mayo, S.A. We present a case of spontaneous haemorrhage of a thyroid nodule with diffusion of the haematoma to cervical spaces and mediastinum, which began as a progressive cervical mass affecting the airway and which required surgical treatment for control. The diagnosis was made using ultrasonography and cervicothoracic CT scan, giving high quality images to determine the site of bleeding as well as the extent of the process. © 2009 Elsevier España, S.L.

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania. Its usual transmission form is vectorial. It is currently classified as a neglected tropical disease. Despite this, cases have been increasing in recent years due to three factors: lack of control measures, population movements, and presence of immunosuppression. The case is presented of a 26 year-old male with no previous history, who had a clinical profile of two months non-specific evolution with dysthermic feeling, asthenia, diaphoresis and hyperoxia. On physical examination he had hepatosplenomegaly and the initial laboratory results showed a marked anaemia and neutropenia. A cyto-morphological study of peripheral blood and bone marrow aspirate were performed that reported a Leishmania parasite infestation, but no evidence of any immunosuppressive factor, which is a regular feature of this disease. © 2015 AEBM, AEFA y SEQC.
