Welded carbon steel spherical cooking container is often used as cooking equipment for paper-making process. The failure modes of welded rotary digester are cracking and thinning caused by the complexity of the cooking process and possible welding defects existing in welded rotary digester. The service life of rotary digester could be prolonged by adjusting the main recipe to control the pH value of the cooking liquid strictly and taking appropriate welding materials and reasonable welding process. Ash deposition in recovery boilers affects its safe operation. Measures including controlling the composition, concentration and amount of feeding black liquor, using a reasonable configuration of blowing system, adopting less ash deposition structure of heating surface, applying advanced online soot blowers and circulating fluidized bed for recovery can extend the operation cycle of recovering boilers. Causticizing calcium carbonate (CCC) known as white clay, can be used to replace precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) as paper filler, which is of benefit to save resources and prevent secondary pollution. However, compared with the PCC, CCC can deteriorate the sizing efficiency of alkyl ketene dimer(AKD), thereby the application of the CCC was limited. This paper studied the reason of lower sizing efficiency of AKD when CCC was used as a filler. The results showed that the greater amounts of AKD adsorbed by CCC caused the lower AKD sizing efficiency. The irregular CCC with higher BET surface area and BJH pore volume resulted in higher adsorption. On the contrary, the spindle-like or needle-like CCC had lower BET surface area and BJH pore volume, and its adsorption amount of AKD was low, so the AKD sizing efficiency in the paper filled with those CCC was higher. In order to study the effects of freeness of the pulp after first stage refining on energy consumption and pulp quality of selective refining, the pulp after first stage refining (freeness of 710 mL) was further refined to freeness of 600 mL, the effects of different freeness of pulps on selective refining were studied. The results showed that with the selective refining, starting from the pulp with freeness of 710 mL, compared with contrast pulp, the energy consumption reduced significantly, energy consumption of refining decreased by 13.1%, paper bulk and tear index increased by 11.6% and 1.7%, while the tensile index and internal bonding strength decreased by 10.5% and 16.8%, respectively; when selective refining starting from the pulp with freeness of 600 mL, energy consumption of refining decreased by 2.9%, paper bulk increased by 4.7%, while the tensile index and internal bonding strength decreased by 4.2% and 12.4% respectively, the higher freeness of the pulp after first stage refining was good for the reduction of energy consumption, compared with the freeness of 600 mL, the energy comsumption decreased by 10.6%, paper bulk and tear index increased by 6.7% and 1.9%, while the tensile index and internal bonding strength decreased by 6.6% and 4.9%.
