A method for controlling the temperature of a sheet in a printing machine includes measuring initial temperatures in zones on the sheet. Segments of an emitter are actuated in different ways as a function of the measured initial temperatures for irradiating cooler zones to a greater extent and warmer zones to a lesser extent or not at all. A common final temperature or at least a homogenization of the temperature is therefore achieved in the zones.

A method for the automated generation of reference color values for color control purposes in a printing machine by using a computer includes, within a process of setting up the printing machine for a print job, initially carrying out printing operations and using a spectrophotometer to determine coloration values for every process color used in the print job. For every process color that is used in the print job, the computer automatically selects that coloration value of a process color that has the smallest deviation from a color set point that has been established at the beginning of the job and saves this coloration value as a new reference value for this process color.

A device for hot-foil stamping on printing materials includes a heated stamping cylinder, a counterpressure cylinder, and a device for providing stamping foil. The device for providing stamping foil guides the stamping foil between the stamping cylinder and the counterpressure cylinder in a direction tangential to the cylinders. The device for providing stamping foil has an adjustable guide element that is disposed downstream of the stamping cylinder and of the counterpressure cylinder for guiding the stamping foil. The hot-foil stamping device advantageously allows the stamping quality to be optimized.

A method for avoiding collisions in a digital inkjet printing machine, a method and a device for actuator-based lifting movement of inkjet heads. A sensor/camera monitors the sheets as they travel towards the inkjet heads. In order to avoid collisions, the inkjet heads are raised and lowered again individually and in an oscillation-optimized manner when a defective sheet is detected. The machine does not need to be stopped in the event of defective sheets. Advantageously, rejects can thus be reduced and the performance of the machine can be exploited better.

A method for damping pressure peaks in an ink line of an inkjet printer includes connecting the line to a chamber divided by a diaphragm into an air-filled first space and an ink-filled second space, connecting the first space to an air-filled buffer, connecting the buffer to an air pump, a) pumping air into the first space until freeing the chamber of ink and the diaphragm rests on a chamber wall or tension in the diaphragm begins rising substantially linearly, then b) pumping air out of the first space until filling the chamber with ink and the diaphragm rests on a chamber wall or tension of the diaphragm begins rising substantially linearly, while determining the number of pump cycles, then c) pumping air into the first space while passing through substantially half of the determined pump cycles. Steps a and b may be reversed.

A method and a device for detecting ink leakage during a printing process are used in an inkjet printing machine including a workflow system on a computer for print job control, an ink supply unit including an ink reservoir with an ink level sensor, a control unit running software for controlling the ink supply and print heads capable of creating ink drops of different sizes. A theoretical amount of ink to be consumed is calculated based on prepress printing data by adding drop volumes using the workflow system. The theoretical amount to be consumed is transmitted to the ink supply control software using the workflow system. An actual amount of ink having been consumed is detected by the ink level sensor. The theoretical ink consumption amount and the actual ink consumption amount are compared and a leakage alert is displayed if the actual amount is greater than the theoretical amount.

A digital printing machine includes a printing material transport device, an inkjet print head having a nozzle plate, and a capping element. The inkjet print head is adjustable into a first print head position relative to the capping element and the capping element is adjustable into a capping position relative to the inkjet print head. The capping element temporarily covers the nozzle plate when the inkjet print head is in the first print head position and the capping element is simultaneously in the capping position.

A method is provided for checking an image inspection system having a camera system with a camera, an illumination apparatus for targeted illumination of a printing substrate, an image processing computer, and a main computer, for quality control of products of a printing substrate processing machine by using the main computer. A reference image is entered and transmitted to the main computer, a current printing image recorded by the camera system is transmitted to the image processing computer, a partial image in a suitable region of the current printing image, not being printed with printing image data, is selected in the image processing computer, the partial image is analyzed by comparison with the reference image in the image processing computer, and the inspection system is assessed based on the analysis of the partial image by the main computer and any defects of the inspection system being found are indicated.

A digital printing machine includes at least one print head for inkjet printing, a drum for transporting printing material, and a spittoon for collecting ink coming from the print head. The drum has a mounting for the spittoon. The spittoon includes a support and an absorber fixed thereto. The absorber is quasi flush with the outer circumference of the drum, and the support and the absorber together form a replaceable disposable unit. A spittoon for use in a digital printing machine is also provided.
